Help for historical landmark http://home.att.ne t/~florencestockade/friends.htm Recently my husband and I visited the Florence National Cemetery in Florence, SC. There my GGGrandfather, Edgar Haner, was buried in Oct 1864. He had been a prisoner of war at the Florence Stockade. This is a beautiful six acre cemetery surrounded by a red brick wall. The peace we found there was very moving to us and I am sure in direct contrast to those awful days during the war. The Friends of the Florence Stockade (see site above) are in the process of gathering names of all soldiers that were at Florence during the war. (These records were lost.) They are also trying to preserve this site by purchasing the last portion of the land where Florence Stockade stood ........... Please visit this site ..... let them know if you have knowledge of anyone who may have served, or been imprisoned there..... and please consider helping them purchase the land on which this historic site stood. Thank you Nancy Francis
