Thanks for all the feedback on the Seven Starrs Inn. Several of your replies added extra tidbits that help me pinpoint the location on a modern map. It was definitely located in Montgomery County. I have a reprint of the 1758 map that shows it in tiny letters, but definitely right where the written descriptions place it. The inn of the same name in Chester County is a different one, given that it is dated to 1718 and was being operated during the same time period as the one in Montgomery County. The quote below is from the modern Seven Stars Inn's website and explains why so many taverns used the name. The name Seven Stars remains a mystery. Some say it was named for Seven Crossroads, or Seven Daughters. Others say it is for the seven stars in the Big Dipper or the Seven Years of Americas War for Independence. From antiquity people have been fond of using the number seven in naming their properties. Seven Stars was a popular name for inns and taverns in England and Colonial America. Yep, like you said lots of Seven Stars!!!!! I was searching for Seven Stars myself because of my ancestor surname TOBIAS. Found mine in Schuylkill Co near Cressona. Blink you are through it. Not even listed as town from what I remember being there. Only know it was there from older locals and the historical society. Seven Stars Road stars across from Cressona Mall at Rt. 61 and ends up further on Rt. 61. Old Seven Stars Inn is now apartments! Family story had it was named after my ancestor who had 7 sons hence the 7 stars! Still trying to find more info on it. Know it was burned by the Indians I think in 1752.
