Looking for information on well known American, still life artist John F. Francis (b. 1808 Philadelphia d. Nov. 1886). John married Mary (unknown surname) (b. 1815/1816 d. 1870-1880). They had two children that are known, Joseph Rafael (b. a. 1832 in Pottsville, Schuylkill Co., PA) and Mary Elizabeth (b. 1834 in New Berlin, Union Co., PA). Both children were deceased by 1856. In 1860 John F. Francis and Mary were living in Upper Providence, Montgomery Co., PA and living with them was a Charles Gunn age 9. In 1870 they were still in Upper Providence, Montgomery Co., PA and Charles Gunn is listed as 16 years of age. By 1880 John F. Francis was a widower living in Norriton Township, Montgomery Co., PA and he states his father was born in Italy and his mother in New Jersey. That's all I know about them. Other than it is suggested that in April 1842 John F. Francis purchased a house in Pottstown, PA and in March of 1858 he purchased a house in Phoenixville, PA. Would love to be able to substantiate these last two facts, but John was nowhere to be found in the 1850 census. Any additional information appreciated. Betty Burdan

I'm not certain who asked or why, but not all of Douglassville is in Amity, some of it is in Douglass Township, Berks County, PA. The Mt. Zion Cemetery in North Coventry, Chester is so close to Pottstown in Montgomery County that it was used very frequently by the residents in Pottstown and the surrounding area. It's been a while since I worked on my Montgomery Co. families and I need some information on locations. 1. Is Douglassville in Montgomery County or Berks County? 2. Is Mt. Zion Cemetery in Chester Co? I know the address is Pottstown but I think I remember crossing the county line when I went to the cemetery. Thanks! Colleen

I am looking for the parents of George Washington Moore, b. Jan. 1855, d. March 31, 1920 in Norristown,PA., buried in Montgomery Cemetery. His wife was Emma C. Carels, from Philadelphia, b.August 1856, died in 1937, buried in Montgomery Cemetery. Their children were: 1)Emma Mae, b.Nov. 17, 1876, died October 24, 1968, married first to James J. Dale, then after his death to Emmett Robert Benner. Emma and Robert are buried at Riverside Cemetery in Norristown. 2)Gertrude Elinora, b. Nov. 5, 1880, d. Nov. 4, 1972, married to Lester S. Baird(Beard), b. Feb. 13, 1879( in Plymouth Meeting), died 1954, both buried in Riverside Cemetery. I have reason to believe, but no proof, that his parents were Nathan T. Moore, according to census, b. abt. 1811 in Maryland. His wife was Catherine unknown. In the 1900 census, George had a brother, Elwood, living with him. If Nathan is his father, according to the 1870 census there were also two other brothers, James C. and Howard. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Deb Stanish
Cheryl, I also found the contradictions, but I found the following on the LDS site, so it would seem she was born in N.J., although I realize that just because it's on the site doesn't mean it's right. Can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of a marriage license from 1857 in the Pottstown area? Thank, Colleen
Colleen --- You will have to try and find Church Records or newspaper articles. Marriage licenses were only issued in Montgomery County ro 1852-1855 and 1885 to present. Deb, I have a Joseph TYSON in Norristown but it's not the same man as all my information is different. Mine was born 1809 and died 1874 and married Anna BOOZ. Actually most of my information refers to him as a resident of Gwynnedd Twp (1850 Census), then Norriton Twp (1860 Census) and finally Worcester Twp (1870 Census). But his son, my gg-grandfather was born 1840 in Norristown. If you have run across my man in your search, I'd appreciate any info. Thanks. Hi! I list this group. Can anyone recognize any of them? Do you have info or a database that would point to them? They are not to be confused with the family of James & Mary WOLFENDEN, who had a number of children, but none named Ida. Sadly, those two families were not far apart, and it leads to confusion.
