    1. [PAMONTGO-L] DAVIS
    2. Does anyone have info about the William Davis referred to in the following excerpt from Whitpain Twp, Montgomery Co PA history: William DAVIS, a Welsh Quaker, was among the first settlers of Whitpain Twp. He purchased 200 acres of land on Skippack Pike...since there is no record or deed it is assumed that he bought the property from John Palmer about 1701. In 1729 he acquired 116 acres of the great Whitpain tract from Rees Thomas, Anthony Morris and Ann Whitpain. In his will dated 1735, he left sixteen acres to his wife Deborah, all his other properties were to be sold. He was survived by five children: David, Thomas, John, James and Margret who were all under sixteen years of age. I am interested in determining whether this is the family of my Thomas DAVIS (m Elinor?; children Thomas, David, Elinor, Elizabeth) who lived in Hatfield Twp, Montgomery Co PA, where he died in 1777. Any help appreciated. Edie

    3. To Kelly, I come from a McIhaney line early in Chester Co., and/or Lancaster PA also. John Bowen a Welshman married a Scotch-Irish girl age 17, the daughter of Henry and Jane McIhaney from Ireland (about 1730-31). Her father had died when she was an infant (in Ireland) leaving two children, Lily and Henry. Her mother remarried Mr. Hunter and they had a large family of children. Mrs. Hunter and her daughters brought the first small flax wheel to Pennsylvania. Lilly McIlhaney Bowen and John moved south to Augusta Co., VA about 1730-31 and their first child was born in 1732, Orange Co., VA. They had a total of 13 children . Perhaps George was a cousin to Lilly and Henry. I have looked at a book "Guide to the Mortgages of the General Loan Office of the Provice of PA 1724-1756" by Duffin, and there is no mention of the name McEl/Ilhaney there. I do see the name whenever I check old southwest Virginia or TN . 1. [PAMONTGO-L] ZIEGLER-KEHLER-WALT
    2. Brad Ziegler
    3. Greetings, I am a new subscriber to this list. I descend from immigrant Michael ZIEGLER (1684-1765) and his great-grandson, Peter Ziegler. Most of the following information comes from "Genealogical and Biographical Annals of Northumberland County, PA." 1911, Floyd & Co., pp. 327-328 and "Joseph A. Meiser, Jr. Publications" which did extended family research based on Floyd's book using census, cemetery, and funeral records. Peter ZIEGLER was born on 2 Dec. 1778, Frederick Township, Montgomery Co., PA. He married before1810 to Mary "Polly" KEHLER (b. abt 4 Dec 1783 -d. 10 Nov 1876, age 92y-11mos-6d). Peter was a stonemason and owned a tract of land near Ziegler's Church. (see question below). With both his parents deceased by 1825, he left Montgomery County and "went west" settling in Northumberland County, about 1840 (while in his 60's) with the Walt & Weiss families, also of Montgomery County. Peter died 2 Jun 1856, in Wildcat Valley, 3 miles from Liverpool, Perry County, PA., at age 77. The Floyd book says he is buried at St. James Church, Perry County, PA. The Mieser research says both he and "Polly" are buried in Stone Valley Cemetery. Their children: i. Andrew/Andreas ZIEGLER + Catherine HARNER and later Lovinia STRAWSER ii. Abraham ZIEGLER, married c1833 + Catherine "Katie" WALT (They moved to MO. about 1878) iii. Alfred ZIEGLER + Harriet BATDORF iv. Nancy ZIEGLER + Geroge NIEMAN v. Eliza ZIEGLER + Isaac HEFFELFINGER vi. Magdalene "Lena" ZIEGLER + Willoughby WALT My Questions: 1) Is there a "Ziegler's Church" located anywhere in Montgomery County? 2) Does anyone have info on the marriage of Peter ZIEGLER to Mary "Polly" KEHLER c1809? 3) Does anyone have info on the marriage of Abraham ZIEGLER to Catherine "Katie" WALT c1833? 4) Does anyone have any information on the KEHLER family? I have nothing. 5) I am also interested in the WALT/WALDT family and have some information to swap/share. Blessings, Brad Ziegler Union, MO.

    3. It's been a number of years since I was researching the Groff family. I have before me an anouncement of the Groff History Associates invitation to the 1993 Gathering of the Groff Descendants. Address of the Assoc is given as 151 Cherry Hill Rd, Ronks, PA 17572. And it mentions the book THE GROFF BOOK, Volume 2, An Update. The family historian and author was Clyde Groff. His first book was publ in 1985, a hardbound book of 433 pages which covers all families in the South East PA area from Graf to Groff to Grove. I noticed a year or more ago that Clyde had died, so don't know what the situation is at present. I would image you would get an answer to a letter. Or you could order the book(s) from LDS on microfilm. I also have an article entitled "Swiss Origins of Groff, Hess, Weber, Landis, and Oberholtzer Families" by Jane Evans Best, which appeared in the PA Mennonite Heritage Magazine in April 1990.
