I am afraid I am not clear what all this is about, but there is an entire chapter on Neville and Craig families in Egle's Pennsylvania Genealogies (they are not *my* Neville's I think, since mine came from NJ). "Not clear"? I thought I was pretty articulate. Guess I better rethink this one. G
As found in the GenWeb Archives: The Shearer family are of German descent, the orthography of the name having originally been Schearer. John Shearer, the grandfather of Abel K., was a successful farmer in Whitpain Township, Montgomery Co. He married a Miss Weber, whose children were Jacob ***********John (Is this the John who m: Elizabeth ENGARD in 1828? Joseph Benjamin Jesse Margaret (wife of Joseph Knipe) Elizabeth, (married to Joel Sellers.) Jacob, the eldest son, was born in 1794 in Whitpain township, and followed the occupation of his father, a portion of his farm being now embraced in the borough of North Wales. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph Knipe, of Gwynedd Township had children, - Catharine (Mrs. Ephraim Neavill) Sophia (Mrs. Edward L. Jones) Euphemia Franklin Isabella (Mrs. George L. Brooks) Amanda (who died in youth) Eliza (Mrs. Jacob L. Weber) John Abel K. Mary (Mrs. H. F. Moyer). Can anyone tell me if this is the John (Jr.) who m: Elizabeth ENGARD in Montgomery Co., PA 1828? Gerre Engard Byrd
James m: Sarah INGARD per County Clerk Records for Burlington Co., NJ. Please tell me what you can about this James LEWIS. I know nothing more about him. And Sarah? Oh, how I'd like to find descendants, if there were any. I am only guessing that she is one of the daughters of William ENGARD and Martha HILLIARD ENGARD. Their daughter, Sarah, m: Barnet Van Kirk in 1828. Thought perhaps LEWIS may have been a previous marriage for her. Perhaps James Lewis died shortly after they married. Gerre Engard Byrd

My notes indicate Magdalena's mother was a SOLLIDAY, Elizabeth who m: Philip REED. One Philip immigrated 1727 and another Philip immigrated 1728 with my immigrant ancestor, Philip ENGHERT/ENGARD. Do you know anything about the Adam REED/RITH who was in Bucks Co. and left a Will in the mid 1700's (I can't find my notes right now) naming a daughter, Catharine ENGERS? His other daughters married SOUDER/SOWDER, METZ (METZGER?), & BOCHER (BECKER?). Thanks again for your help. Gerre Engard Byrd
George Wack was a German Reformed minister and likely the pastor of the church that Jacob and Magdalena Engard attended. The Leidy's and Reed's were relatives and originally neighbors in the Hatfield/Franconia area (Magdalena Reed's grandmother was a Leidy). I think it's unlikely that either John Leidy or George Wack were connected to the Engard family. Tom Myers
John LEIDY and George WACK were appointed guardians for the children of Jacob ENGARD & Magdalena REED ENGARD. This Jacob died in 1823. The guardianships would have taken place after that, but there are not dates on these papers. Would like to know if John LEIDY and George WACK were related to ENGARDS, perhaps as brother-in-laws? Does anyone have a copy of the Biographical Annals of Montgomery County? If so, I am interested in finding out if there are any RYAN's profiled in this book. Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays! Colleen Ryan Beener

I am so hoping you can help me. I don't know your name, but I found you in ancestry.com. Philo's son, Vincent, left a Will dated 1764 in which he mentions "Barbara INGER". I have reason to believe she is the wife of Adam INGER/ENGARD who migrated from Montgomery Co., PA to Burlington Co, Mt. Holly about 1771. Barbara INGER died 1774. Please - will you help me piece this together? I will be ever so grateful. Perhaps you can point me to a LEEDS family historian/research specialist. Gerre Engard Byrd
Please, you AYRES and AYERS researchers out there! Read this in preparation of my Query... Chronicle of the Yerkes Family with Notes on the Leech and Rutter Families 238. SILAS AYERS YERKES5 (Benjamin4, Silas3, Herman2, Anthony1), son of Benjamin Yerkes by his wife Rachel Buzart, was born in Moreland, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, 1 November, 1799; died at Rochester, New York, 1 August, 1878. At the age of twenty-two he went to Rochester with his parents. For a number of years he was justice of the peace of the town of Gates, now a part of Rochester. In 1854 he was tendered a nomination to the Legislature, but declined the honor, as he intended moving to Lima, New York, in order that his children might have the educational benefits of the Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, which later became Syracuse University. While in Lima he engaged in business as a hardware merchant. In 1870, he returned to Rochester, where he resided until his death. He was a member of the Plymouth Church in that city. He married, 25 December, 1826, Susannah Sarah Hill, born at Hopeton, Oneida County, New York, 25 January, 1805; died at Rochester, 8 June, 1872; daughter of James Hill by his wife Catharine le Tellier Bruff. Now, Benjamin4 is this Benjamin: Benjamin Yerkes b. Feb. 22, 1768 who m. Rachel Buzart b. May 10, 1772 and which marriage took place in New Hope, Bucks Co., PA on May 10, 1791. This Benjamin was also s/o Silas Yerkes and Hannah Dungan. Very familiar names, no? I won't get into them. But they did have one child, Deborah Yerkes, who married a SAMUEL AYRES. This Samuel AYRES, was b. March 28, 1749 in Abington, PA, and d. Oct. 26, 1804, in Abington. He is also, the s/o William Ayres and Margaret Mary Kean. William came from County Antrim, and was the son of Samuel and Margaret Richmond Ayres of County Antrim... SO! Now my question is this. Was Silas AYERS Yerkes, really Silas AYRES Yerkes, with his name misspelt by this book, or was it truly Silas AYERS Yerkes, and was there some misspelling on the part of the father, Benjamin, or was there some AYERS influence I am not aware of, or some actual connection between AYERS and AYRES? I guess, I am just asking for commentary on this to help me see if there is some connection after all? Something definite, not obscure and from the past, such as The Ayres Name all came from So and So and thus must be connected... Thanks, Vince Summers
Hi all I recently joined a few PA lists so if you receive duplicates of this message, I apoligize. I'm searching for information on a John BOWEN, b. 1786, d 1845 married Rachel FEURT in 1815 and had at least the following four sons: Gabriel, Daniel, Thomas & James. I have been told that John was born PA but I have not been able to confirm that. Confirming his place of birth is my primary goal right now. Finding his parents would be a wonderful bonus! I've been searching for old John for a few years now and he appears to be my brick wall. He and Rachel were married in Scioto County, OH. John is burried in the Bowen cemetery at Vales Mill (Vinton County, OH) as are many descendents. If anyone has any information on this lost family of Bowen's, it would be greatly appreciated. We have a ton of information on John and Rachel's descendents, but nothing prior to them. Thanks for your help. Carolyn Bowen McGuire
Anyone researching: Snyder, Rhoads, Ruppert, Daniels, Simpson, Buzby My latest "brick wall" is Joseph F. Buzby of Royersford, Pa. who invented a glass insulator in 1890. CD 141.8 BUZBY in Ice Aqua . I made a contact with a collector of insulators and he sent me a copy of the patent #427,296 dated May 6, 1890; app. filed December 31, 1889; Serial # 335,497 Witnesses. J.E. Snyder and D.R. Rhoads; Model drawing #427,296; May 6, 1890 Witnesses A. Ruppert and H.A. Daniels Attorney Thomas P. Simpson. Have you any inside patent information connections?? I have contacted the Government Patent office and receive only an automated reply and have checked other local records to no avail. Anyone have any information on these names, please. Thanks, Lea Simitz Buzby
Hi everyone - I'm new to this List and searching for relatives of ROBERT PORTER and his possible brother, ANDREW PORTER. Were there other family members (JOSEPH; THOMAS; MARY ?) who immigrated to Pennsylvania with Robert? ROBERT was born 1698 in County Donegal Ireland; marrried about 1727, to LILLEOUS CHRISTY, d/o JOHN and JANE CHRISTY; in 1740 came to Worcester Twp, Philadelphia (now Montgomery) County; was an elder of the Presbyterian Church of Norristown from 1741 to his death, 14 July 1770; he is suppose to have had nine sons and five daughters, but I've found only 7 sons so far. I have a lot of information, a lot, on the descendants of Robert and Lilleous to share. I really need his siblings/parents/cousins and more info about him. Arlene Gemmill
