    2. Gail, Do you know that there is a Cressman family Organization. It is centered in and around Quakertown, Pa. Write to Sue Cunningham @aol.com. She is the secretary of the group. My husband is in the 6 George line of Cressmans. This means that George was the 6th Cressman to have settled in America. There is a lot of history about this family. Most of it is in Bucks Co. Pa. Hope this helps. Anna in AZ

    1. [PAMONTGO-L] Headstone German
    2. Betty J. Burdan
    3. Comments to prior messages First: I think Yeoman was a term used for a person who was a landowner and wasn't his occupation. Next: Not all the headstones at Falkner Swamp Cemetery are in German. But for anyone who has encountered German Headstones I've come up with a list of terms that I call "Headstone German" With a general knowledge of what you might find on the German headstones, and a little common sense on the order you might find it in, the following German terms and their English meaning may be useful as you attempt to decipher German headstones. This is only a guide, or perhaps just simply clues for you as you do your research. Remember dialects will influence the words you find, and spelling, pretty much, doesn't count. Also, the German language ending on a word or the separating articles used will be influenced by the gender of the subject. German includes different words and endings for each the masculine and feminine gender. Possessive forms you may encounter are: mein (my), dein (your singular), sein (his, its), irh (her, its), unser (our), euer (your), ihr (their), and Ihr (formal your). Old headstones will be in an older version of the words and will probably not appear the same in a current German to English dictionary. Good Luck in your hunt. German.........English Hier...........Here Ruhet..........Rests, (masculine) Ruhen..........Rests, (feminine) Er Ruhet.......He rests Sie Rhuet......She rests Im Gott........In God Er Wurde.......He became(as in born) Sie Wurde......She became (as in born) Er War.........He was Sie War........She was Geboren........Born Er wurde geboren......He was born Sie wurde geboren.....She was born Eine wurdt gebohren...also She was born Und ist........And is Storben........Dead or to die Gestorben......Died, past tense Jahr/Jahren....Year/Years Monat/Monaten..Month [names of months are similar enough to recognize] Tag/Tagen......Day or Days Kind von.......Child of Kindern........Children Sohn von/Sohnes von.....Son of or Sons of Tochter/Tochtern von....Daughter of or Daughters of Verheiratet/Verhilichte mit....Married to or married with Frau or Frauline..........Woman/wife/young unmarried female Ehefrau...........Wife Seine/Seiner Ehefrau war...His wife was Sein Gantzes/Ganz Alter....His whole age was or he was ..........................."(x number of years)" years old Zeugen/Zeugte........Fathered or begat(as in children) Kind/Kinder........Child or Children Sohne..............Son Tochter............Daughter Herr/Herrn.........Lord Im Herr/Herrn......In God Im Unsers Herrn....In our God Jahren von Herrn...Year of our Lord Leichen/Leichten text.....Funeral Text Betty Burdan <bjburdan@ptd.net>

    2. I am writing in response to Donna Hull(?)'s question about PETERMAN. The Peterman I am looking for is Jacob, married to Ann Colley in the 1750's. They lived in Plymouth township and had several children, one of whom was Joseph. He later had Jacob, married to Mary Engard, and they had Benjamin Franklin PETERMAN. I know the first Jacob was a blacksmith in Plymouth, and his son Joseph was a mason. Thanks in advance for any help you may provide. Bunny in La.

    2. Donna Hull
    3. Gail-- I would appreciate a lookup in the New Hanover Lutheran records. Jacob Miller/Mueller/Muller, b. 1702 Germany, probably deceased by c1745 or it not he probably moved to Shenandoah Valley, VA Margaret nee Miller, m. Jacob Miller c1725 in Philadelphia Co. at Falkner's Swamp according to family legend. She was approximately same age as Jacob. They both immigrated with parents, names unknown, in c1715. Births - need confirmation on their childrens dates. This is suposedly the correct birth order but my dates may be off. Jacob Miller, son/o above, b. 1726 Falkner's Sw George Miller b. c1731 Falk Sw Christian Miller, b. c1732 Falk.Sw John Miller, son, b. 1733-35 2nd or 9th of Nov Henry Miller ,. c1735 Falkner's Sw Barbara Miller b. c1736 Falk Sw Catharine Miller b. c1737 Falk Sw When they got to Augusta Co., VA they were attending a church of German Reformed. I don't know that they were ever Lutheran but I suppose with travel like it was, they might have gone to the closest one. I hope the records of the Luth. Ch go back that far. the German Reformed at Falkner's Swamp records don't seem to. No hurry. I notice you're getting lots of requests. I'm doing one on my books for this list right now so have an idea that you will get a lot of requests. 3. Willard-- Had an uncle named Willard. :-) Falkner's Swamp church cemeter transcriptions are on film & available for rental at your local Family History Center. I don't have the film & but you can search on line or at the FHC in Familysearch.org in the catalog. All stones are in German. It would be a good idea to know German words that might be places on stone for birth, death, wife of, husband of, child of, etc. I didn't find my people :-( but there are quite a few others there. 3. Can any one help me with this: George MOHR and Anna Maria NEUKIRCH were married in Schwartzwald Church on 9/27/1789. I am trying to find the parents of Anna Maria NEUKIRCH born 3/8/1770. She died 7/23/1803 a week after giving birth to her 8th child, Maria MOHR. I have a church confirmation of a Maria NEUKIRCH, age 16, on 4/9/1787 pub in the Penn-German Society showing that children of two congregations, New Goshenhoppen and Great Swamp, were confirmed that day by Joh. Theob. Faber. I was unaware of any NEUKIRCH in Montgomery County then. Are these churches close to Robeson in Berks Co? Are there records in anyone's books of any other NEUKIRCH at either of these churches or elsewhere prior to 1789? Would there be anything to show who the parents of Maria NEUKIRCH, confirmed that day, are? Does anyone know if these confirmation records are available somewhere? I have been unable to tie Anna Maria to any of the NEUKIRCH famiilies in Berks Co in the 1770s. Schwartzwald records do not go back to her birthdate which was 3/8/1770. If anyone has early church records from 1770s and find something, please e-mail me at audiana@webtv.net. Thanks so much. Diana
