Is there any record of employees way back? Thanks. Bunny in La.
My gggg(?)grandfather was a mason in Montgomery Co. at the turn of the 18th century. He was born in Plymouth township and I know that he inherited his father's land there. PETERMAN is the name.
Hi: Did anyone ever mention Corson Lime Quarry in Plymouth Whitemarsh, it is the oldest Lime Quarry in the U.S., I use to work there. They no longer mine lime when they were purchased by Highway Material recently but the quarry is still in operation. Edie
Hi Amy, I'm awfully sorry that I haven't responded to your answer to my post about quarries in Montgomery County sooner. I had a lot of responses, and the birth of a fourth grandchild, so things have been hectic. I have also gotten on an "ELLIS kick" in the UK, and have been posting to lists there, as well. I really do appreciate your answer. I never knew that marble was quarried in the Conshohocken area, although I should have. I knew of the quarry at King Manor, and the fact that they had quarried limestone at Port Kennedy for the forge at Valley Forge, but until your letter never thought of the large Glasgow quarry at Ivy Rock. I worked at Alan Wood Steel for 10 years, and passed that quarry every day, but didn't think of it until you wrote. Someday, I hope to find out which of these quarries were operating from the 1850s on, and which one of these my ggg grandfather worked at. Thanks again, Bob Reifsneider
Does anyone have this surname? If so, please contact me, won't you? Thanks, Vince

Thank you Linda, My husband's gr grandfather, Isaac DEAVES was a private it "The Lafayette Blues", a volunteer militia group that answered the call of the govenor of Pnnsylvania, to help quell the Riots of 1844. He was read out of the Quaker Meeting for this military service. And now, thanks to you, we know all about those riots. Mary D. Hi Dick, Thanks again for your very informative reply to my question about my ELLIS family in Cornwall, England, later at Upper Merion Twp., PA, USA. You and some others were certainly helpful. It shows that the people on these lists are not only very willing to help each other, but also have lots of historical knowledge to share. I had several replies about Cornwall. Annie's obit, in 1911, said she was born in Cornwall, England. I thought for the last two years that Cornwall was a city. Shows what thinking can do for/to you, doesn't it? Anyway, I now know what Cornwall is. It seems to have a world wide fan club, almost a family. There seems to be a secret joke going around reference touching one's nose with one's tongue, but it somehow seems to be over my head. I often wondered where Anna's middle name came from, and I suppose your idea of a place name in Cornwall seems better than any I've thought of. I don't know anything about vital records in the UK, except that they began in 1837, much earlier than in the US. I only have found IGI info at the LDS Library here, so far. but would love to get birth, christening, and marriage records, if available in England. A trip to the LDS Library last Thursday found some of the family in St Austell, Cornwall, England, up to 1847. This would put them on the ship between 1847, when Annie was born in England, and 1849 when the US Census had them, with George as US born, and 8/12 old. There were three possible James ELLIS - Mary Ann ???? marriages in the early 1830s One each in London, Suffolk, and Norfolk. I sent e-mails to listers in those counties working on ELLISes, but no connection has been made yet. What town's are in Montgomery Twp? I used to work at Alan Wood Steel Co., in Conshohocken, and I worked with a superintendent, Don MATHEWS, and a melter, his son, Larry MATHEWS. Any connection? Thanks again, BobR

Hello Bob I may well be the only English subscriber to this list - if not the others are only lurking. Cornwall is an English County, and it is possible that your Annie Ellis's middle name commemorates a place in Cornwall which is normally spelt Luxulyan. Mining and quarrying are (or rather, were) major industries in Cornwall - particularly for tin and copper, and for china clay. How much do you know about research in theUK - or have you already found UK vital record info for the children and a marriage for James and Mary Ann? genealogy 101 -- What is a "Shellenberger" book.? Where is the "Spruance Library"? Ruth in GA I've just learned Saturday that the Washington Library in Macon, GA has an excellent collection of material on Pennsylvania genealogy. My husband broke his hip in our latest ice storm, so it will be a few months before I can drive us down there to look. When I find out what's there, I'll post it. The accident threw us both into a loop. Gail, Excuse me for butting in. You said you were going to Bucks Co (and Spruance) in April. Wish you were going in May. I am going out there on May 8 and was looking for someone to share a few meals and commiserate on lost ancestors. The family lived in the area until 1985 but, of course, I wasn't doing genealogy then. Spruance is excellent and you should have a great time. Diane in Colorado
Gail, where were your CRESSMAN buried? Not because I am related, but I am looking for a ggggg named Elizabeth LINCH / LENCH / LYNCH who signed her name as being Elizabeth LINCH / LINCH / LYNCH in the eleventh year of her age 1731 This is the first time I have seen any reference as where to look for records from 1731 1731 is before the calendar changed frm Gregorian to Julian. And they timed and referenced age differently. Any help welcomed. Ruth, I'm sorry. The Spruance Library is part of the Bucks County Historicial Society in Doylestown, PA. They have a book at that library called the Shellenberger Book. I have not been to the library or seen the book, but in April hope to be introduced to both. I feel sorry for your husband. My father did the same thing many years ago. Jumped down off his tractor and hit the ground funny and there went the old hip. He came out of it just fine. Best wishes to your husband. Gail in IL
A short time ago someone inquired about a Dinkey's church and where it might be located. At the time I had never heard of it, but while searching obituaries in the newspapers at this site http://www.ipl.org/cgi-bin/reading/news.out.pl?co=USA&st=Pennsylvania I came across not one, but two and possibly three Dinkey's churches. If that persons is still looking, there were these Dinkey's churches noted in the obituaries in the Times New of Lehighton and the Allentown Morning Call.
