    1. [PAMONTGO-L] Upper Dublin Assoc for the Recovery of Stolen Horses
    2. catherine r. buck
    3. In the "Bulletin of the Historical Society of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania" Volume 18, Fall 1971 - Spring 1973, pages 52 through 64 is an article "Early History of the Upper Dublin Association" by Elwood C. Parry, Jr. the full title of the Association was "The Upper Dublin Association for the Recovery of Stolen Horses, Dentention of Horse-Thieves and obtaining other Stolen Property" The Assoc. was evidently a combination insurance group, and vigilante society, in the absence of any constabulary. The founders met at "The Sign of the Three Tuns" in 1828. The author didn't give any attributions, but quoted freely from the minutes. No footnotes. The docent couldn't find the directories or the minutes of the members over the years, which the MHS " has somewhere, but misfiled". I want to see if my gr grandfather was a member, and when. The society had affiliations with other similar associations in Philadelphia, even having conventions together. Does anyone have any knowledge of this society? My note: The corner location of "The Sign of the Three Tuns" was originally called "Lewisville". The author didn't say when the name was changed. Ruth in GA

    1. [PAMONTGO-L] Lukens family
    2. David P. Welch
    3. I'm trying to locate the parents of Frank Lukens, my great-grandfather. All we know about him is that he was born in Pennsylvania and so far my searches lead me to the Philadelphia area. He was born around 1854 & possibly could also be known as Francis Lukens. Around 1883 he turns up in the shore towns of Wall Township (Monmouth County), NJ, & married Lillie Combs. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone having a Frank/Francis Lukens in their family tree. Also if someone has access to the 1860 &/or 1870 census for Montgomery Co., please check to see if his names appears on it. Thanks. Barbara Welch, Burke, Va.

    1. [PAMONTGO-L] Lawrence, KS Brethren - SAVAGE and LIGHTCAP
    2. Diana Quinones
    3. Does anyone know of any Brethren or Mennonites who might have migrated from Chester/Berks Co to Lawrence KS about 1877? I am looking for a William George SAVAGE or George William SAVAGE b 6/11/1855 in Chester Co, PA, who left Reading,PA and went to Lawrence KS in 1877. I do not know when he died. According to "Cutler's History of the State of Kansas", particularly Douglas Co where they relocated, George W SAVAGE was married to Julia HUGHLETT, a native of Virginia, on 3/8/1876 in Reading PA. He was a machinist in Reading and was employed by the Scott Iron Works, having worked on Carliss engines, cotton presses, rolling mill machinery. He and Julia moved to Lawrence KS in 1877 where he was first employed by the Kansas Pacific Railroad and then went to South Park CO for a few years to learn mining. He returned to Lawrence in 1882 and, with a Mr. LIGHTCAP, founded the Douglas County Iron Works in Lawrence in spring of 1882. He and Julia had a dau Maud H SAVAGE. George W SAVAGE had two sisters: Clara SAVAGE 1851-1900 (w/o Daniel W. LANDIS -1850-1886) who was my gr grandmother and Minerva SAVAGE (1850-1906) who married a Dutton LIGHTCAP of Pottstown 1837-19??) and with her moved to KS and then to AL. Mr LIGHTCAP became a prominent dentist in Talladega AL. His parents were Samuel and Mary LIGHTCAP (a locomotive engineer) and were shown on the 1850 Census in Pottstown PA with 2 sons Dutton age 13 and Samuel age 8. I am not sure if he (George SAVAGE) was Brethren or Mennonite. I have not been able to find his religious affiliation. The SAVAGE family was from E Coventry, Chester Co PA and his grandfather, Zenas SAVAGE, who died in 1877 was interred at E Coventy Union Meeting House (which I believe is now called Oak Grove Cemetery). Daniel and Clara SAVAGE LANDIS lived in Pottstown and were members of the First Baptist Church there. They are buried in Mt Zion Cemetery outside Pottstown. Minerva and Dutton LIGHTCAP are buried in Talladega AL. I would appreciate anyone's help on the Douglas Co, Kansas SAVAGE connection and any Chester/Mongomery/Berks Co information on these SAVAGEs, LIGHTCAPs and HUGHLETT. I am also searching for information on the father of these SAVAGEs: George W SAVAGE born 1/17/1825 and died 1/12/1856. He married Charlotte KERST MOHR, (dau of Elias N MOHR and Mary KERST of Union Twp, Berks Co PA.) on 12/26/1848 by a Rev G Orem. This was in the Village Record newspapaer on Accessible Archives. Where would I find out what religious affiliation Rev Orem would have been? Would anyone have a newspaper OBIT of his death? He was young - age 31 and cause of death is puzzling at such a young age. He is buried next to his parents, Zenas and Rebecca MARCH SAVAGE in Oak Grove Cemetery, Chester Co. His widow, Charlotte K SAVAGE, is buried in Mt Zion Cemetery, Pottstown. If anyone has any reference to any of these kin, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you. Sorry to be so long winded! SAVAGE, LANDIS, KERST, MOHR, LIGHTCAP, HEWLETT, JONES, NEUKIRCH, DUGAN in Chester, Berks and Montgomery Co PA and Lawrence KS Diana

    1. [PAMONTGO-L] Wright, Dungan, McVaugh in Philadelphia County, PA 1780-1850
    2. Hello List, Does anyone have any information on these Wright-Dungan, Wright-McVaugh, Dungan-McVaugh, marriages in the Philadelphia-Montgomery County area of Pennsylvania in late 1700's through the mid 1800's? I am trying to find the given name of the Wright who married Mary Harmstead Dungan (they were the parents of my grgrgrandfather, William James Wright). Mary Harmstead Dungan presumed to be the daughter of Amos Dungan and Ann McVaugh, and a niece of the Rosanna (Dungan) Wright who may have been (I haven't found proof yet) the wife of George Wright, son of William Wright and Eleanor Northrop. A sister of George Wright presumed to be married to Daniel McVaugh. My brick wall is the unknown Wright who married Mary Harmstead Dungan. If I can find his identity, maybe I can finally prove (or disprove) his descent from the Joseph Wright (d. 1716) of Philadelphia whose bio appears at: http://vader.castles.com/ftprints/8-100141.html Thank you for taking the time to read this. 1. [PAMONTGO-L] Wife of Heinrich KESSELBERG/CASSELBERRY?
    2. Gene Rooks
    3. Heinrich KESSELBERG/CASSELBERRY d. 1729 isn't one of the original 13, but he got to Germantown right afterwards, and shortly after married a Catrin/Catharine ? d. 1768 by whom he had children Elizabeth, Derrick, Eve, William, John, Mary, Catharine, and Paul. Catharine was a member of the original Mennonite congregation. Could his wife be a daughter of one of the original families? Some of his children married into the DAVIS, BASSET, SHRACK, and ADDAMS families, and his grandson Jacob married Ann TYSON. I have more CASSELBERRY information. Gene in Gotha

    3. Gene, I just listed my first query with the Montgomery CO. I am a Shearer but my Shearers are from around Pittsburgh. I think we are Irish but that is up for interpretation. A one George Shearer is as far back as I can go. He was married to a Mary Bruce I believe. I'll need to pull out my Shearer stuff if this might be your family. 1. [PAMONTGO-L] LUCKENS/LUKENS of Gwynned, Towamencin
    2. Gene Rooks
    3. Who were the Joseph, Mathias, and Abraham LUKENS mentioned in the will below? I have a rough idea, but would like to hear if anyone has data to confirm who they are, and if any of them could possibly be the father of Margaret WIDNER, wife of George? The daughter Elizabeth mentioned in the will below I am sure married my Christian WEBER, Jr. in 1765. In Abstracts of Philadelphia Wills, there is one George WIDNER, Yeoman of Gwynned, Co. of Philadelphia, Will Book N116. Will dated Mar. 8, 1764, proved Mar. 20, 1764. It names wife Margaret, children Abraham, Elizabeth, and Catharine. Executors are Joseph LUKENS and Jacob WENTZ, and witnessed by Mathias and Abraham LUCKENS. Gwynned Twp. is adjacent to Worcester (WENTZ family) and Towamencin (WEBER family) Twps., and there are other interactions between the Wentz, Lukens, and Weber families. Thanks, Gene in Gotha
