I'm looking for any information on Lydia Jackson born in Horasham, PA . She married a Thomas Vandervere/Vandever born in Philadelphia. They were married before 1889, and may have lived in Philadelphia. They had at least 5 children. One was Robertha H. Vandever born on 6-29-1875 in Philadelphia. She married a Matthew Schoch. Any information would be helpful. Thank you, G.K. Schoch

Hi List, I am trying to find information on Ephraim Hewitt and family. They arrived in Phila. PA., from Ireland in May 1860. Ephraim, wife Lydia and children Ephraim, William, Isabella and Ann. Ephraim, the son, married Mary Jane Naye, possibly about 1870. I know nothing about the other children. Ephraim, don't know if father or son, bought a cemetery plot at Montgomery Cemetery in 1865. There are no records of who is buried there. Samuel Gibson Hewitt, son Of Ephraim (the son) married Ella Bailey? and had children Gibson B. and Leroy?. Gibson B. died in 1916 and Samuel in 1917. Both are buried at Westminster Cemtery but I can't find a death certificate for them in New Castle. Other Montgomery Co. names are Naye and Scott Does anyone have information on this Hewitt family? Thanks, Lisa
Hi MONTCO and BERKSCO listers, We have a gg grandfather James ELLIS and his wife, Mary Ann (ROBERTS???) who was a quarryman in Upper Merion Twp, Montgomery County, at the time of the 1850 US Census. At the time of his Declaration of Intention to become a US Citizen, on 17 APR 1852, he was a citizen of Shannonville, Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County, and at the time of the 1860 U S Census, he seems to have been a citizen of Colebrookdale Township, Berks County. Mary Ann was missing from this census. In fact, only one of his children appeared to be still living in his household. No wonder he is so hard to pin down. He is a true "moving target." Can anyone tell us where Shannonville is? Does anyone have anything else on the family, such as where Mary Ann may have gone? Thanks very much, Bob Reifsneider Orange Park, FL
Pat: Doubt if any offical birth record is available, birth certificates were almost unknown in 1877. There is one possibility, I found some ledger type record (births/deaths) books for a county in Ohio I was interested in. These were micro-filmed courtesy of the Mormon Church. Perhaps a similar tpye of record may exist for the county you are interested in? Long shot, to be sure and would require some research to find. Perhaps worth the effort. Don
Somewhere out there among the YOST families of Montgomery Co. PA is a couple who probably married around 1800, and among their children had a boy Matthias YOST born Sept. 12, 1807. He married Elizabeth JACOBS and settled in Evansburg, not far from the Perkiomen bridge. They only had one solitary child, Mary Ann YOST, born in 1835, who married Jesse Stroud WEBER, a descendant of Christian WEBER. Seeking family of Mathias YOST, he may have a brother Jacob and another brother James, these two men, both born 1805 and died 1846, unless this is a duplicated entry, are buried at St. James Perkiomen where Mathias and Elizabeth are buried. I know there are YOST families of Jacob, Daniel, and Philip around. I also know Philip BOEHM sold a piece of property to a Mathias YOST of Salisbury Twp. now LeHigh Co. in 1774, but nothing more on him either. Does anyone at all have a YOST family containing a son Matthias born in 1807 in Montgomery Co. area? Thanks, Gene in Gotha

Hello: Where can I find a birth record for a person born in either Pottstown or Swedeland in 1877? I contacted the Montgomery County Clerk's office, and after being transferred four times, their Passport Office told me they no longer have birth certificates at the Clerk's Office. They sent me to a Scranton office where I was told their records commence in 1906. Scranton sent me back to the Montgomery County Clerk. The Clerk's office then said they don't know where these records would be kept, but they suggested I call the Montgomery County Historical Society. Does anyone have more definite advice than this? Thank you for any assistance you can give me. Best wishes, Pat in Florida

Lorri's list of the 1900 census for South Phila. reminded me of the BRIGHTS in and around Montgomery Co. in the latter half of the 1700's. Gideon and Isabella BRIGHT were selling land to one of my ENGARDS. Can anyone tell me more about the makeup of this BRIGHT family? Gerre Engard Byrd
Betty -- Thanks so much for your help. My CURLL family came from Norristown. Wish I could go into the Miami main library to spend some time in the Genealogy Section, but with this Elian Gonzalez thing going on, you never know when the Cubans will throw a fit and block traffic!!! I might never get home!!!! Phyllis
Would anyone who is connected with the Pottstown Historical Society and who likes a good non-genealogy question please e-mail me off list. Marge Green
Is there a site when I can check for ancestors in this unit? Specifically the family of CURLL? Thanks -- Phyllis
Phyllis, Yes and no, the entire 68th is represented on this site, however there isn't a Company breakdown yet, but there is plenty to see and learn. http://members.xoom.com/_XOOM/ScottLegion/68thPennsylvaniaHomepage.htm Also, Co. H was organized primarily in Pottstown, PA. While many of Co. H's vets are buried at the Pottstown Cemetery, East End section, there seem to be no Curlls in my file. Other locations in Pottstown that you might want to check for records of your family are: Pottstown Cemetery Company [for the West End Section records] 371 N. Hanover Street Pottstown, PA 19464. hours 9 a.m. - 12 noon weekdays. The East End (opened 1850) and the West End (opened 1890) are both part of the Pottstown Cemetery, however we only did the readings on the East End as the records there were extremely limited and all but non-existent. Hi Betty, I also have many Harners in my background, but all the information I have on them has them from Montgomery County. If you want to pursue this any further, just e-mail me privately and I will send you what I have. Bette (also) PMunday@aol.com
