Look up the Wyoming Valley Massacre. After the prior Indian Wars the land was probably pretty cheap. But it was also in dispute with Connecticut. When the Revolution comes along, the massacre happens, they run back for safety to Fort Penn. If your family was involved in that, there's probably quite a lot written.
