The records indicate he came to the US in 1872. His occupation on the census is farmer. I went to castlegarden.org and found a John Blair age 18 who arrived 18 Oct 1872, origin Ireland, left port Glasgow & Moville, arrived on ship Anglia. The 1900 census shows his year of birth as 1854 so this record seems to fit. (There are a number of John Blairs who arrived in 1872, however, so not positively sure.) The 1920 census record shows his naturalization date but it is blurred. I think that you might want to contact NARA in Philadelphia for a record of his naturalization. Here is the contact info: http://www.archives.gov/midatlantic/contact.html There is an email address for naturalization records. The naturalization record may show where in Ireland he was born and the ship he departed on. If you know the ship he departed on then there may be a record in Ireland for his departure with information about his place of birth.
