The first ancestor of whom we have an account, was our subject's (Hon. John D Houck) great-grandfather, who died at a ripe old age in Lehigh County. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. He married a d/o Abraham Harp, a life long resident of Berks County. Peter Houck (2) grandfather, was born June 25, 1777 in Allentown, but the greater part of his life was spent in Boyertown. On May 10, 1801 he married Elizabeth Harp of Berks County, Children; Abraham, who married Mary Gotchall, Sarah who married George Gilbert, Charles and Reubin who never married, Peter who married Mary Cassel, Elizabeth who married John Duttery, Isaac who marred REbecca Keeler, and Nathan. The father died Dec 30, 1854 and the mother died Feb. 19, 1875 Nathan Houck, father, was born March 24, 1818 in Boyertown, Berks County. On April 14, 1841 married Laanna Deetz and 8 children were born to this union. John D., Charles, born 1845, Franklin, born 1847, Elizabeth, who married Dr, Flecher Gilpin, Amanda, married Emory Gilpen, Emma married Frank Nicholson, Anna born 1856, Carrie married Dr. Arthur Simons. On the maternal side our subject (Hon. John D. Houck) is a great-grandson of Jacob Deets, who came from Germany at an early day, and a grandson of Abraham Deetz of Bucks County. Abraham Deetz married Elizabeth Berger, d/o Abraham BEger, a farmer from CT., children, Caroline who married 1st Charles Scheisle and 2nd Jesse Deetz, Laanna, mother of our subject, Charles, who married Mary Yeager, Elias who married Sarah Auburn, Mariah wife of Elias Althaus, William who married Hester Weidner, Livy, who married James Althaus, Thomas who married Caroline Nace, Edward who married Hannah Thomas, Sarah the wife of William Sellars, Daniel who married Emma Ott, Catherine who married John W. Youthers, and Manasa, who married Sarah Fritz. Judge Houck, on May 3, 1871 was married at Houcktown to Mary L. Wallace, at the M.E. Church at Salem. Children, Nathan Ray, 1880, Lulu, born 1884, and John Earl, 1887. Mary L. (Wallace) Houck, was born Sept 27, 1843 in Sterling township, Wayne county, d/o John and Mary (McDavitt) Wallace both native of North Ireland. On the paternal side she is of Scott descent and her grandparents, John and Martha (Stewart) Wallace were born in Scotland but moved to Ireland and then to America. Her father being age 16 at emigration. Her mother crossed the ocean with her parents, Robert and ____McDavitt, who were born in Ireland. John Wallace(2) and Mary McDavitt, parents of Mary (Wallace) Houck, were married in 1837, Brooklyn, NY and moved to Sterling township, Wayne Co., PA Best Wishes, Geri
