    3. C.W. Hathaway,(subect), born in 1850 in Susquehanna County, the son of Walter Hathaway, who was born 1819, in New York State. Came with parents, Horace and ____(Brooks) Hathaway to Ararat township, Sus. Co. C. W. married Antoinett Hoel, a native of Wayne County, the d/o David and Susan E. (Tiel) Hoel. Jacob K. Shiffler (subject), a farmer of Greene township, Pike County, was born at Phila., PA., March 2, 1832. He was the son of George and Rebecca (Vaughn) Shiffler, who spent their entire life in Phila. The father died in 1843, aged 45, the mother died in 1863, aged 53. They were buried in the Helverson burying ground of Phila. They were the parents of, George who was shot and killed at Phila., in 1844; William who married Mary Jacob, and died in Phila.: Edward; Jacob K. (subect); Elizabeth, who married Charles Foster of Phila.; Emily who married Charles Bartely of Phila.; John, who served in the Civil war; Louis, also served in the Civil war and died at age 18; Henry died young. Rebecca (Vaughn) Shiffler was married before to a Mr. Allizer and had two children John and Mary. She was a sister to Vaughn Brothers, the first ship builders of the Quaker City; their ship yard was near the elm tree under which Penn made the treaty with Indians Our subject's paternal grandparents were John and Mary Shiffler, natives of Germany and Phila., respectively. The grandmother of Mary Schiffler, was a little girl during the Rev., and one time complained to the officers that the soldiers were stealing from her garden. Jacob K. Shiffler left home at age 11. On May 9, 1858, at Salem, PA., he married Harriet Bishop, children; Emma, who married Louis Wyland of Pike County; Horace, who married Alice Burrus; Mary the wife of Perry Miller; William; Clarance. Harriet (Bishop) Shiffler was born in Hawley, July, 1838, a d/p Hiram and Alvina (Daniels) Bishop, of New Hope, PA. The father was a river pilot, he died in 1894, at aged 88. William H. Starner, (subject) of Pocono township, (Civil war vet), his paternal grandfather was a native of Germany, came to America as a young man and located in Hamilton township, Monroe county, he married there and reared 7 children. Joseph Starner, father of William H., was in Hamilton township and married Mary Van Horn, d/o John Van Horn, who was also of German ancestry and came to America just before the Rev. After their marriage they settled in Coolbaugh township, Monroe County. Children; Willian H. (subject), Jane who married John Borom of Cesco, Stewart lived in Stroudburg, Catharine who married John Decker, Joseph, Ellen,, who married John Van Horn and lived in Tobyhanna, Mary married Osman Beers, Freeman, Lucinda who married James Crooks of Gouldsboro. William H. was born in Hamilton township, May 24, 1844. He married at Tobyhanna Mills, July 26, 1866 to Elizabeth Schufter, d/o Christian and Lena (Bowers) Schufter, natives of Germany, now of Pocono township. William H. and Elizabeth had the following, Mary Elizabeth, born 1868, and married Charles Eilber, George, born 1871, John D., born at Tannersville and married Emma Smith, Jennie born 1877 and married Ed Deihl, Julia born 1880, married John H. Widdoss, Charles W., born 1882, Joseph born 1885, Frank, born 1888, and B. Harrison born 1893. Best Wishes, Geri
