    3. Monroe County History Jacob J. Greenamoyer,(subject) was born in Chestnut Hill, Monroe County, Aug. 29, 1837. Jacob and Elizabeth (Arnold) Greenamoyer, his parents were natives of Berks and Monroe Counties, respectively, but was only 3 years old when the former came to Monroe County with his parents, Jacob and Elizabeth (Weiss) Greenamoyer. Charles M. Low,(subject) married in Kellersville, Monroe County, Rachel Keller, who was born in Kellersville. She was born Feb. 1, 1830, d/o John and Sarah (Trach) Keller. Her grandparents were John G. and Rachel (Diltz) Keller, the former of Monroe County and the latter a native of NJ. Kindarus Shupp,(subject) of Brodheadsville, Monroe Count, was born in Chestnut Hill, Nov 28, 1841, a son of Joseph and Ellen (Sax) Shupp. The paternal grandparents of our subject were Peter and Margaret (Hawk) Shupp, natives of Northampton, now Monroe County Henry Lear, subject, sheriff of Monroe county. His family is probably of French orgin, the name having formerly been Laner, but our subject's ancestors came to this section at a very early period, and his great-grandfather, Jacob Learn, was a farmer in what is called Hamilton township, Monroe county. Peter Learn, grandfather, married Margaret "Starner", she was probably a native of Allentown, she died at age 73. Jacob Learn, father, was born Jan 22, 824 in Pocono township, He married Mary A. Werkheiser and they had 4 children. Our subject's mother was born April 15, 1824, a d/o Henry Werkheiser, he and his wife Catharine (Arnold) had children; Mary A., John, Betsy, Hannah, Henry, Abraham. Sheriif Learn, was born April 27, 1849, in the spring of 1869, married Ella Walters, who died in 1884, and on Nov 26, 1895, he married 2nd to Mrs. Anna Shook, nee Brown. David Keller, subject, of Stroudsburg, Monroe, mrried May 28, 1839 to Ellen Brown, who was born Oct 11, 1818, their son Charles, born March 21, 1840 married Mary Walton; Their son (David and Ellen's) Charles B., married Bird Freese, and they had two children, (Harry and Dorothy). Adam Serfass, subject, of Brodheadsville, Monroe County, was born Nov. 9, 1845, in Polk township, Monroe County. I. Great-grandfather, John Serfass, from German in 1750, he married Susannah Hone, of Lehigh County, and they had 13 children, of whom the following mention is made, A. John who married Elizabeth Kunkel, B. Adam, C. George married Elizabth Christman and they had 5 children, D. John, E, George, F. Susan married John Kerchner, G. Elizabeth married Amos Everett. H. Hanna married Peter Smith, I Peter married Catharine Strom, J. Andrew, K. Sarah married Henry Hawk, L..Hannah, married Lewis Hawk , they lived in Iowas, M. Elizabeth who married Samuel Hawk of Allentown, N.Franklin of Northampton and P.Nathan Stewart S. Shaffer, subject, of Stroudsburg, The great-grandfather, Philip Shafer, his wife's maiden was Mary Buskirk. Children Daniel, Amos, George, Alonzo B., Julia, who married Jesse Weiss, Margaret, who married Daniel Walter, Mary, who married Roland Potter, Martha who married Barnet Walter, and Albina, who married Levi Protz. James T. Rodman,(subject) was born Oct. 5, 1826, in Hillside, Columbia County, NY, on Dec 26, 1860 he married at Hawely PA to Keturah Longstreet. who was born Nov. 2, 1824 in Milfored , Pike County. Mrs. Rodman's family, the Longstreets is one of high standing. The first ancestor of whom we have record in the United States is Richard Longstreet, or Langstrasse, who was of German extraction, and settled in Monmouth County, NJ. Some of his descendant removed to Sussex and Morris Counties, NJ., and others went South as far as GA, General James Longstreet belonging to this branch of the family. Col. Chrisoper Longstreet,, of Rev. War fame, was an early life pioneer settler in the vincinty of Great Bend and New Milford, PA Louis Longstreet, her father, was a native of NJ.
