Monroe County History Dreher/ Phillips/Walton Judge Samuel S. Dreher, who died at Stroudsburg, Monroe County, June 28,1893. His grandfather, was George Dreher, old time resdient of Monroe County, Michael Dreher, father of Samuel S., lived in Stroudsburg, was born April 10, 1824. He married Dec. 21, 1844 to Sallie Phillips and they had 6 children;(1) Anna P., born 1849 married Joseph Matlack of Phila., and had 3 children; Samuel D. of Phila., Paul, of Phila., and Sarah; (2) Oscar, born 1852, he married Lizzie Baldwin of Stroudsburg, and she died leaving one children, Norman B.; Elizabeth, born 1854, married A.A Dinsmore, left two children, Elizabeth and William Frank; (4) Howard, born 1856, resided in KA., he married Grace Deringer of KA., and they had children, Ruth, Sallie, Ida, Henry, and Anna: (5( Addie born 1858, married a Dr. Mutchler of Stroudsburg and had two children,, Miles H., and Margaret H.; (6) Edith, 1862-1866 The Phillips family, became identified with Bucks county, at an early date. Thomas Phillips (grandfather) was a farmer and miller. Moses Phillips, (father) was born 1792, married Christiana Carey, who was born 1794, d/o Thomas Carey, of Bucks County. Soon after his marriage, Mr. Phillips came to Monroe county, locating first one mile from Stroudsburg. He died at Stroudsburg in 1865, and his wife died in 1885. They had 10 children; Hannah who was an infant when they moved to Monroe county, married Dr. Walton, of Stroudsburg, Mary, never married, William, of St. Louis, Sallie (Mrs. Dreher), Carey, Elizabeth, married Samuel Melick, of Stroudsburg. Ellen, married Reuben Miller of Hawley, Wayne County, and Rachel married Michael Brown of Stroudsburg. Yeisley Family Grandparent, George and Christina Yeisley of Northampton county. Children; Jacob, John Peter, Nicholas, Conrad, Charlotte and Christina. Nicholas, John and Conrad moved west, settling in Ohio. The daughters both married and died at Easton on Pittston, respectively. Peter Yeisley was born in 1793 near Easton, grew to manhood in Smithfield, Monroe County. He married Catharine Transue and they had 16 children; Child #2, Mary,born 1814, married Daniel Zimmerman, they had 4 children, Samuel, Annas, Sabina, and Hiram. Child #5, Katherine, born in 1818 to Frederick Zimmerman, child #8 Margaret born 1822, married Samuel Posten of Price township, Monroe county. Brodhead Richard Brodhead, married 1st to _____Jansen and they settled in Marbletown, Ulster county, NY, and to this union were born a son, Daniel (who moved to PA). For his second wife, he married Wintie Pawling and they had seven children, (1) John who married Ann Nottigham,a granddaughter of Ann Tye. (2) Magdalena, who married Jacob Esselstine of Columbia county, (3) Ann married Andrew Oliver of Marbletown, NY, (4) Nelly, the wife of Stephen Nottingham, (5) Elizabeth, married Christoper Davis of Marbletown, (6) Mary married Robert McGinnis, of Canada, (7) Rachael, married Wood Furman of SC. Daniel, son of Richard, was born in Marbletown, April 20, 1693 and was the first of the family to settle in PA. Daniel was commissione as on of the justices of the peace for the portion of Bucks county north of the Blue Hills. He married Hester Wyngart and they had 10 children; Garret, son of Daniel, served in the Rev., a Lt., from NJ. In 1770 he was apppointed magistrate, and he died in E. Strousburg in 1804. He married Jane Davis of New York state,and they had 7 children; John (1766-1821), Daniel, Richard, George, Elizabeth who married Dr. Francis Joseph Smith, Rachael who married David Dills, and Samuel. Hon. Richard, was born at Strousburg, July 26, 1771, and in 1791 moved to Pike County, he died Nov 11, 1843. He married Hannah Drake of Stroudsburg, and they had 12 children, Sarah, the wife of Col. john Westbrook, Garrett, born 1793, married Cornelia Dingman, William born 1795 who married Moses S. Brundage, Albert born 1799 who married Ellen Middaugh, Anna Maria who married John Seaman, Rachel, who marrid Dr. John Linderman, Charles, and Richard Jr., a US Sentor from PA. Charles, son of Richard, was in born 1801, Pike county, he married Mary Brown, d/o Hon. Jacob Brown, associate judge of Monroe county. Children; Charles D. and Martha Jane, who was born Jan 21, 1830, she married 1st to Capt. George B. Keller of Hamilton township, 2nd to Conrad Kresge of Pittston. Charles D., son of Charles, was born Sept 23, 1827, on Feb. 21, 1848 he married Rachael D. Keller of Hamilton township, Monroe County. Three children were born to them (1) Joseph K. marred Ella K. Andre, and they had, Mary, Jennie and John. (2) Mary L., married Charles Evans and they had, Laura B., and E. May (3) George M., (Minster of the Methodist Church), married Clara C. Chapin and had Frank, Rachel, and Charles. Bush Great-grandfather, George Bush, of Shawnee, Monroe County, married Anne Stetler, she,a native of Germany, members of the German Reformed Church, but attended the Presbyterian Church in their vicinity. Six children; Findlay born Sept 18, 1818,married Anna Maria Ribbel who was born in 1824 at Pahaquarry, NJ.: Hiram: Susan, who married John Zimmerman: Anna M., who married Thomas Brodhead of Water Gap: Jane and Sallie Ann, wife of Judge LaBar. Irvine R., son of Findlay, was born April 14, 1859 and he married Olivia W. Greene, who was born Dec 25, 1864 in Chester County. Rodman George T. Rodman, M.D., of Hawley, Wayne County, born June 28, 1864, a son of George and Susan (Longstreet) Teeter, The father born in Monroe County, the mother in Wayne County. George T. Rodman, was just 2 years old, when his mother moved to Murhypsboro, IL, and 6 months later he returned to Hawley, with his mother, who was anxious to secure him a home before her death. After that event, he was legally adopted by his aunt and uncle, Keturah (Longstreet) and James T, Rodman, who had no children of their own. On Dec 26, 1860, James T.Rodman, married Keturah Longstreet. The first ancestor of whom we have record in the US is Richard Longstreet or Langstrasse, who of German extraction, and settled in 1657 in Monmouth County, NJ. Some of his decendants removed to Sussex and Morris County, NJ, and other went South as far as Georgia, Gen. James Longstreet beloning to this branch of the family. Col. Christoper Longstreet, (Rev. war), was in early life pioneer settler in the vincinity of Great Bend and New Milford, PA. Louis Longstreet, was a native of NJ. He removed to Pike County in 1822, moved to Wayne County in 1829. He married in NJ to Elizabeth A. Goble, was was born in NJ, d/o Nathaniel and Azuban A.
