Lehigh County History John Wagner, of Berks County, George Wagner, a pioneer had settled as a farmer in the north-western section prior to 1750. His son John located in the eastern part of Upper Bern township which now embraced in Tilden township, in the vicinity of Bern Station on the Phila., and Reading railroad, and there he carried on an extensive butcher business during the construction of the Schuylkill Valley canel. He had 3 children; John, Valentin, and Maria who married Joseph McHermer. Another John Wagner, settled in Bern township and followed the blacksmith trade besided conducting a hotel. His wife,, Susanna Fink. They had 6 children; Augustus, Levi, Cyrus, Frelingheysen, of Washington, DC, Mary, and Harrison.(the father of Dr. Levi F. Wagner) There was a 3rd John Wagner who settled in Maiden Creek township, Berks County, at an early date. He was the great-grandfather of Hon. George W. Wagner. His family was a large one of that county. It is probable that John Wagner, is the grandfather of John W., of Allentown, is one of his sons. The last named John Wagner settled at Green Lane, Montgomery County, He and his wife, Julia Wagner, were members of the Lutheran church and they had 5 children; Peter, Milton, Sallie, William, died young, and Sarah. Peter, son of John, in 1843, died at Macungie, Lehigh County, on Good Friday, 1889, His wife, Caroline Kneedler, died in 1891, d/o Reuben Kneedler, children; John W., Oliver, Alice married Chas. Dillenger of Sellersville, and Annie who was single and lived in Phila. John Wagner, of Allentown, was born in 1872, he was a mounted policeman. He married Ellen C. Zern, d/o John and Amanda (Schweitzwitz) Zern, who lived at Montgomery County. They had an adopted daughter, Mabel. Wagner Family; setled in Nazareth, PA. Christian Wagner, was a farmer and blacksmith. His son, Charles Wagner, he was employed by Major 'Frey and later with Joseph Kramer, a coachmaker. Charles Wagner, married Henrietta Seip, d/o John of Allentown, children; Henry C., Anna died at 16, Sarah, Emma,married Matthias Ritter, Alice married Charles Christ of Allentown and they had 4 children; (Harvey, George, Frank and Allen), Charles married Katie Roth. Capt. Henry Calvin Wagner, was born Sept. 4, 1840, he married Rebecca E. Reiss, d/o Reuben and Eliza (Weiss) Reiss of Allentwon. She died Aug. 1885, aged 45. Children; Lizzie, George L., Harry Reiss, Hattie, married John Yingling. Charles Arthur, and Herbet B Henry Reiss Wagner married Hattie Schoudt, d/o Charles and Amanda (Mertz) Shoudt, Children; Harold F, Ralph Arthur, Elizabeth, Reecca, Margaret Amanda. Members of St. John's Reformed Church. Charles Arthur Wagner, was born July 18, 1872, in married 1903, d/o W.D. and "Masourie" (Horn) Kohler, ol Allentown, children; Lorraine, died in infancy, Richard K., Philip K., and Rebecca. Members of St. John's Herbert Balliet Wagner, son of Capt. Henry C., was born at Allentown, March 11, 1878 at Allentown. He married Sept. 5, 1905 to Nellie Brearley, d/o Charles H. and Anna (Hoff) Brealey, of Cornell, Westchester county, MD., children; Anna, Kathryn, Mildred, and Henry C. Charles N. Wagner, brother of Capt. H.C., he was born July 19, 1861. He married Nov. 5, 1891 to Katie Roth, d/o Benjamin F. Children; Grace H., Marion, Edith and Charles Morton. Wagner, Jacob Alvine, born at Limestone, Montour county, July 19, 1864, the s/o William Alfred and Mary Martha (Gauger) Wagner. On his father's side, he is a descendant of the Stupp, Bordrer and Schneider families, early settlers of Tulpehocken, Berks County, and of Hans Wagner, who emigrated from Germany, on the ship Robert and Alice, 1742. He settled in Macungie township, Lehigh county. He, with his son Jacob the 2nd helped organize the Lehigh Zion Lutheran Church. Jacob was a soldier of the Rev, and the father of 10. Michael Wagner, grandfather of subject. (Jacob Alvin), died at age 94. On his mother's side, Jacob is a descendant of the Gauger family, a portion of whom were massacred by Indians, near Northkill, Tulpehocken, Berks County in the year 1758 He is also a desendant of Jacob Follmer, and descendant of the Eschback and Romig families, early settlers of Lehigh county. His great-great-grandfather was Adam Romig, who is buried at Friendenville church. Jacob Alvin, married Myrtle Gamble, d/o Judge James DeKalb Gamble. Wagner, Samuel D. (Rev.) born in Paradise, Northumberland county, Oct. 4, 1831, s/o Rev. Henry and Sarah Magdalene (Wiestling). Henry was born at Cumru township, Berks County, Sarah was born at Harrisburg, d/o Dr. Samuel. Rev. Samuel D., married on Oct. 18, 1859, to Rebecca Earnest, of Norristown, the 3rd daughter of William and Lucy Earnest. Best Wishes, Geri
