    3. Pike County J.C. Westbrook (John Coolbaugh) of Pike County, was born in Delaware township, Pike County, May 24, 1820. He is the 5th in regular line from Anthony Westbrook, who came from Ulster, NY., about 1737, and settled in Montague County, NJ. He had one son, Jacob, who married Lydia Westfall, March 24, 1746, by who he had a son, Solomon (1762-1824), who married Margaret DeWitt. Children of Solomon and Margaret; Jacob (1786-1847), Col. John C., born 1789, a member of congress, married Hannah Coolbrook,the d/o Judge John Coolbrook, of Middle Smithfield, then Pike County. Solomon, (1794-1852), "Soferyne". Margaret, who married William H. Nyce. On Dec 29, 1850, he married "Jaue' Wells of Milford, children; Alice who married Dr. Gouverneur Emerson, Hannah, the wife of John Williamson of Branchville, NJ, Frank, Brodhead (1856-1877) and Lafayette. Simon Westfall located at Carpenter's Point in 1755, he was among the first settlers. Simon Westfall moved his houshold back farther in NJ and laid up on the hills with 3 loaded guns to watch his buildings. He saw the Indians firing his barn. Firing his guns at them they feld, but the succeded in burning all his building. His marriage record is kept at the Old Dutch Reformed Church. 1743, March 13, Simon Westfall2, young man, born in Duchess County, NY, dwelling in Smithfield, Bucks County, to Jannetje Westbroek, young woman, born at Mormel, dwelling at Menissinck, married the 17 day of April, by Peter Kuyckendal, justice of the peace. They had 5 children, of whom Simeon was the only son to settle in Pike County. Simon married Sally Cole, d/o Benjamin Cole, of Deckertown. Children of Simeon and Sally; Simon, David, who married Jemima Cuddeback, d/0 Captain Cuddeback of Deerpark. Their children; Abram, Sarah J. who married James W. Quick, Peer G., who was killed in Canada. Westfall, Cornelius married Huldah Cuddeback, Children; Jemima who married R,C, Bull, of Milford, Elizabeth who married P.G.Candfiel of Sullivan Counth, Sarah, unmarried. Nearpass, Baltus, a descendant of Jacob Nearpass, who located in Montague, in 1750. Nearpasses are of German origin. Jacob Nearpass went back to Germany, expecting to get a large amount of gold and silver; but instead, he returned only with two guns, one of which used by his Baltus in the battle of Minisink where he was killed. Baltus' son John raised a large family, most of who settled in Westfall township. They were, Baltus,of Saw Mill Rift, Michael, William, Jacob, Rachel who married Wm. K.Stone, Polly the wife of Benjamin Westbrook and Catharine, the wife of James Sawyer of Saw Mill Rift. Dingman, Andrew Jr. "Foddy Dingman" as he was called, was born Sept. 19, 1753. He married Jane Westbrook, d/o Daniel Westbrook. Westbrook, John (Col.) was born in Sussex County, NJ., Jan. 19, 1789 and died Oct 8, 1852, He married at age 19 on Feb 14, 1808 to Sarah, d/o Judge Richard Brodhead, and sister of U.S. Senator, Richard Brodhead, of Pike County, she being 16 years of age, born Feb. 12, 1792. She married 2nd to Rev. John Lee, of Newark, NJ. Children of Col. John; Hannah, who married William T. Wilson, Jacob B., died at age 36, Richard B., of Phila., and Jane B., who married Dr. Vincent Emmerson, of Milford. Bushkill Village was first settled by the Gonzales or Gunsaulis , Smiths, Schoonover and later the Heller, Peterses. Manuel Gonzales, a Spaniard lived in Bushkill as early as 1750 or earlier. He had two sons, Manuel and Samuel. A Gonzales is buried at Wurtzboro and is said to be the first white man buired in Orange Countty. Old Manuel Gonzales had 7 daughters, among them, Catharine, the wife of John Turner, and Elizabeth who was taken by the Indians to Canada when 7 years old. She married Peter Quick on her return. Manuel Gonzales married Betsy Overfield and died in Lehman township. He had one son, Manuel, who married Sarah Courtright and they lived in Smithfield, below Bushkill. Children; Besty who married Barney Decker of Smithfield, Ann, who married George Kintner, Margaret, Susan, who married Martin Overfield, Sarah the wife of Jacob Cortright. Heister Gunsaulis married Elizabeth Trach, William married Mary Kirwan, James moved to NY, Samuel of NY, and Mary married Andrew Fritches. Samuel Gonzales married Elsie DeWitt, moved from Bushkill to Smithfield, childen; Catharine married Jacob Miller of Smithfield, Mary who married John Shoemaker, Sarah the wife of Henry Peters. Henry Peter's family lived in Bushkill. Children Elizabeth, Elsie G., Delinda, Charls R., Maria L., Catharine M., Samuel G., and Wm. N. Samuel G. Peters was postmaster in 1857. A store was first started by Henry Peter, Solomon Westbrook and Wm. Nyce under the firm name,Peters, Westbroook, and Nyce. A Mr. LaBar married Elsie G. Peters and was an associate judge of Pike county. Charles R. Peters married Elizabeth Coolbaugh, d/o Judge Moses Coolbaujgh, Catharine M. Peter narried Frank Eilenberger, of Bushkill. William N., married the d/o Judge Mackey. Elizabeth Gonzales, wife of Melchior DePuy, a farner of Smithfield, Manuel Gonzales 3rd married Susan DePuy, he had one son, Samuel, who died in the Army, Susan Gonzael, the last of Samuel Gonzale"s family married Martin Mosier, of Smithfield. George Peters, brother to Henry, married a d/0 Phillip Miller, his children; John, Daniel, Philip,Henry, Jame, Margaret, Delinda and Susan Heller, Simon and Sarah Carpenter, his wfie, children Sarah the wife of Simeon Schoonover, lived in Maple Grove, Mary the wife of Samuel G. Schoonver, Amos of Phila., and Susan wo married Conrad Kinter , and moved west. Best Wishes, Geri
