    3. The Deppen name has been spelled in many ways often appearing as Deppe, Depew, and Dupee and some genealogist declare in its original form to be that of the old Hugunot family DePui. In the list of foreigners from the Palatinate and their list of families arriving (according to Rupp) in the ship "Princess Augusta", Samue Merchant, master, from Rotterdam, last of Cowes, qualified Sept 16, 1736, was Christian Dappen, aged 30 (or as on the Captain's Book, Christian Teppe). I. Christian Dappen settled at Wormelsdorf, Berks Co., where he passed the remained of his days as a farmer. In the tax list of Heidelberg township "Christian Deppy" is assessed as follows, 1767 on 300 ares, 3 horses, 3 sheep; 1768, on 150 acres, 4 horses, 4 cattle, 5 sheep; 1770, on 220 acres, 5 horses, 8 cattle. The will of Christian Deppe, of Heidelberg township is on records in Berks county courthouse, as made Sept. 27, 1775, and probated in 1782, the year of his death. It was witnessed by Philip Moyer, John Casper Reed and Adam Kalbach, and it began as thus; "I, Christian Deppe, an aged yeoman of Heidelbergt township, Berks county". As the will contains no reference to his wife, it is presumed she was dead at the time of his will was made, in 1775. At the time of his death he also owned 50 acres of land in Northampton county. In his will he refers to his "eldest and beloved son, Johannes, who shall have 50 pounds over and above his other share." The children named in the will were; Johannes, Barbara, maried Peter Zimmerman; Anna, married George Yeakly; Treanica; Thomas; Peter; David, who died in 1804 (his will is written in German is on record); Joseph; Jacob; and Abraham, who died intesate, and whose heir was Richard Boone of Heidelberg.
