The Early Germans of New Jersey; Their History, Churches and Genealogies VAN ATTAE OF HUNTERDON Co., N. J. JACOB JANSE [Jacob, the son of John] VAN ETTEN, of Kingston, N. Y., is the first of the name that can be found on the records. He prob. came from Etten, a village in the province of Brabant, Holland, 6 m. W. S. W. from Breds. He m. Annetle Gelvins (dau. of Adrian, or Arl, Gelvins), the record of his marriage [Kingston records] is as follows: JACOB JANSEN, young man. of Etten in Brabrant, and ANNETJE ARIANS, of Amsterdam, deserted wife of Asart Pietersen Tack both re****ding here [in Wi****wyck, now Kingston], 11 January, 1665. The name of his wife is written in several ways, Annetje Adriantse (Adriandr, Arlans), Annetje Gelvins, Annetje Adriaentse Kam. Her father's first name was therefore Adrian and his last name Gelvinn or Kam. It seems prohable that the name Arl or Aaron srose from Arlan, though that would more properly be another form of Adrian. Jacob Janse had ch.: I. ADRIAEN, bap. 26 June, 1670; II. HEILTIE, bap. 21 April, 1679; III. EMANUEL, bap. 27 Dec., 1681; prob. ! rem. to New Jersey (see below); IV. TIETIE, bap. 24 Feb., 1684; V. JACOBUS, bap. 2 May, 1688; VI. GEESJE, bap. 25 Dec., 1688; perhaps also VII. PETER, mar. in 1697; and Ari, mar. before 1695. Of the sons, Jan and Arien resided and died in Ulster county. Pieter and Jacobus removed to Dutchess county about the year 1720-1721. Emanuel moved to Warren county, New Jersey, about the year 1715
