Northampton County, PA Vols Peter, NY Samuel, NY William, NJ Com. Bio Van Etten The Van Etten family traces its ancestery in this county to Jacob Janse or Jansen who prior to 1664 emigrated from Etten in North Barband Holland, eight miles west-south from Breda. A recrod in the First Reformed Church in the city of Kingston, NY states the on Jan 4, 1665, Jacob Jansen Von Etten of Bradbant, Holland, was married to Annetje Ariane von Amsterdam, a widow of Aeri Peterson; that on Jan 6, 1660, they had a son baptized to them, Jan or as John on the 25 March 1668 and a daughter baptized to them named Sytrie. In the bans published Dec 25, 1664, he was described as a young man von Etten in Brabant. As was common in those days he assumed the name of his birthplace as his birthplace affixing thereto the Dutch "von" meaning from, which was afterward Van Etten. All the Van Ettens in this county have descended from the above named Jacob Jansen von Etten of Kingston,NY, Jan 4, 1665, as above stated. Following are the names and dates of baptisin of the children born of this marriage; Jan, born Jan 3, 1666, Sytie born March 25, 1668, Adriaen, or Arie, June 26, 1670, Petronella 1675, Pieter, 1681, Tieje, Feb. 24, 1684, Jacobus or as James May 2, 1686, Gessje, Dec 25, 1688 Jan or John son of Jacob Jansen von Etten was married to Arien Roosa. She was the granddaughter of Albert Heymanse Roosa and Weyntje Allard, who came from Gelderland, a provice in Holland, with their eight children, whose ages ranged from two to seventeen. The voyage from Herwijnen, Gelderland being made in the good ship "Bunta Koe" (Spotted Cow). This family settled in Esopus township, Ulster, NY, which embraced Kingston and Ulster, NY Jacob Van Etten, son of the above Jan, and Jannetje, was born at Hurley, Ulster County, baptized Dec 25, 1696 and on April 22, 1719 married Antjen Westbrook, d/o of Anthony Westbrook. Johannes Van Etten, son of Jacob, was born at Namanoch, NJ., in 1732 and died Feb 15, 1815. He married 1st to Maria Gonzales and 2nd to Rachel Williams, who was the widow of Daniel Decker, who died May 2, 1812. Johannes Van Etten first settld near Eason in Forks township, Northampton County. Subsequently he moved to Delaware townhip, Pike county. He fought under Gen. Anthony Wayne. He commanded a company at the battle of Conshaugh fought with the Indians July, 1780, and in the same month he was commissioned Capt of voulnteers. The children of Johannes Van Etten by his second wife are as follow; Daniel born in 1780, Cornelius born Dec 8, 1782 in Delaware township, died Jan 22, 1860, Solomon, born Feb 12, 1789, and Dorothy who married John Lattimore.
