Geri and anyone researching ANDREAS / WASHBURN, I can dispute the statements linking the two WASHBURN sisters whom married the two ANDREAS brothers and the statement "They were granddaughters of John Rhoads". This was an assumption made by writer and researcher William Stauffer in a 1938 newspaper article on the Mayflower families in the Northeast PA region, printed in the Hazelton Times Leader. The assumption was made only pertaining to young brother Caleb, never for Caleb & Daniel's older sisters Thankful & Sarah WASHBURN. The assumption pertained to Caleb only because nobody could specify when Thankful, Sarah, Daniel, & Caleb's mother, Silence WASHBURN died and whether Silence actually ever migrated to PA with her husband Jesse WASHBURN (same surname), from Bridgewater, Mass. I believe everyone was looking for death dates so intensely that they were missing the words Daniel WASHBURN wrote in his personal accounting of the Wyoming Massacre, "father Jesse Washburn and my Brother Caleb my step mother with 2 small children". We can derive from this statement along with other facts not listed in this e-mail the following: 1] The step mother is the unknown & unproven second wife of Jesse WASHBURN, a daughter of John RHOADES/RHOADS. 2] Jesse & RHOADES daughter had two young children 3] We know Daniel was born in 1763, son of Jesse & Silence WASHBURN. (other facts) 4] We know Jesse immigrated to PA about 1760. (other facts) 5] We know Daniel was born in PA, not Massachusetts. 6] Daniel wrote brother Caleb and separated them from "my step mother with 2 small children". He doesn't even give the names of his step brothers. 7] Further in the sentence he gives the name "Mrs. Woodring the wife of Wm Woodring who was killed in the battle Mrs. had 5 children 4 sons and 1 daughter". Daniel seems to treat his Step mother & step siblings on the same level as Mrs. Woodring & children, almost non-related. 9] Thankful & Sarah WASHBURN were both born in Bridgewater, Mass., 1752 & 1760 respectively and mother was Silence WASHBURN, not the daughter of John RHOADES. Geri if possible, could you tell me the source? I know you just write from the sources and post wonderfully to the list. I'm guessing the two paragraphs originate from an ANDREAS Genealogy which I've seen previously.
