My ancestor, Caspar RUMETSCH, was said to be "from the Blue Mountain." What county would the Blue Mountain have been (still is?) in? He married Barbara LABAR in 1759. I have seen Blue Mountains on a map but am not sure if the Blue Mountain is someplace different. Thank you! Judy Offen Caledonia, NY
Hi Judy, They are referring to the mountain that runs along the top of Northampton County, in eastern PA. Barbara LaBar is one of my ancestors. sherri labar Bangor, PA Northampton County, PA Judy Offen wrote: > > My ancestor, Caspar RUMETSCH, was said to be "from the Blue Mountain." > What county would the Blue Mountain have been (still is?) in? Probably the Blue Mountain mentioned is the Blue Mountain on the Map which runs from N Y to Va./Ky It joins the Appalachian Mt. at times and his difficult to really pinpoint. Most likely Monroe Co. is the area you are looking for, but depending on how long ago it could have been Northampton Co. Parts of the east side of MT is in Northampton then Lehigh Co. There is a geologist who is on one of these Rootsweb pages I hope he is on this one. I think the area they mean here is the mountains between Northampton and Monroe counties around Plainfield Township and Wind Gap. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judy Offen" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2003 9:19 AM Subject: [PAMONROE] RUMETSCH-The Blue Mountain > My ancestor, Caspar RUMETSCH, was said to be "from the Blue Mountain." > What county would the Blue Mountain have been (still is?) in?
