I couldn't find any service records. Berks County History Ranck. Early records show the Ranck family is to be of French Huguenot origin, many of the family living in Paris in the 16th century. The name was spelled Rance and Ranc. The revocation of Nates, and the attendant persecution, drove the family to Germany, where they located along the Rhine. Many of them changed the spelling of the name to Ranke or Ranck, according to the German historian Leopold von Ranke, himself a member of the family. From Germany some of the moved to Holland. Thre brothers came to America, John Michael Ranck sailed on the Mortenhouse, arrived in Phila., Aug 24, 1724. Jacob Ranck arrived later, on the same ship, landing Aug 19, 1729. Philip Ranck came over in the ship Winter Galley, Sept 5, 1738, and he was the ancestor of H.Herbert Ranck, of Berks County. Naturalization paper were granted to Philip Ranck in 1760. His wife's name was Barbara. In 1770 he deeded land to his 4 soms, Jacob, Ludwig, Philip Adam and John. Of these Ludwig married and 24 children, some of these located in Ohio. Philip Adam and John moved to Union County. Jacob Ranck, son of Philip and Barbara, was born Oct 1, 1745 and died Seot 12, 1827 and he was buried in the Rancks graveyard. He married Margaretta Worst, she died Jan 28, 1820. Children; John andSamuel, the only two to marry, Abraham, Jacob, David, Barbara, Margaret. Samuel Ranck, had 4 children;1. David, who had 2 sons, Daniel and Edward, and died in Intercourse, Lancaster County. 2 Samuel who moved to Carroll County, IL and had 2 daughter, one of whom married a Kessler, and the other to a Wagner. John Ranck, was born in 1774, and died in 1845. He married Elizabeth Shively, a sister to his brother Samuel's wife. Children; Jacob, Barbara, Margaret, born Aug 27, 1806, married Joseph Ranck, Ann, Elizabeth, Samuel, John, and Catharine Valentine Ranck, son of Philip, the emigrant and his wife Barbara in 1813. The father of two sons, Michael; and Jacob, whose children were_John, Adam, Jacob, Samuel, Mrs. Benjamin Herr and Mrs. Peter Eably. Michael Ranck, son of Valentine was a teamster in Washington's army. He had one son, Joseph and five daughters, and of the latter one married Yoder, one a Good, one a Musser, one a Witmer and one a Shirk. Joseph Ranck, son of Michael, married his cousin Margaret Ranck, born Aug 27, 1806, died Oct 23, 1849, a d/o John and Elizabeth (Shively). Children; Jonathan who lived in Iowa, and he had 15 children, some of whom lived in Chicago; Samuel, of IL., and had serval daughters but no son; Elizabeth who married Lewis Emery, lived in IL., and Joseph of IL. Amos Ranck, married Rebecca White and had 4 sons, and two daughters, J. Clarence of Dever, Colo., Joseph of DE., H. Herbert of Berks County, Joanna, Florece M., of Phila., and Fannie E, wife of J. Warren Barkley of DE. H. Herbert Ranck married Clara M. Leippe, and had 3 daughters, Esther, Katharine, and Margaret. Best Wishes, Geri
