    1. [PAMONROE] Vital Records in Monroe County

    3. I have some general question about vital records in Monroe County. Where is the repository for birth/death/marriage records? What year ranges are available? What is the cost per copy? I've checked around the PA web sites and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. What I need are birth records 1870-1885 & marriage records 1860's. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Pennsylvania birth records were first stored at local court houses and then centrally at the states. This did not start to happen until the 1890's. Marriages depend on the county but are always stored at the county courthouses, not with the state. 1860 is close to the date Monroe starts. (sorry, don't have the exact date) Unless you are looking for modern records, in the state of PA you need to look at church records. That's where the majority of genealogical data comes from.
