Lehigh County History Jacob Kutz, the immigrant ancestor, was born in Germany, 1674, and arrived her in 1732. Jacob, probably the grandson of Jacob Kutz, the immigrant, married Susanna Geehr, who was born in 1778, and died in 1824. They had children; 1. David, who served as judge of Berks county, married Katie Sell and had (Jacob, George, Dewald, Sell, Judith, Sallie, Susanna, Mary, and Barbara); 2. Samuel, married Polly Kutz and had, (Jacob, Aaron, Samuel, Henry, Robert, Mary Ann and Sarah); Joseph, born in 1800, died in 1896, married Elizabeth Mertz and had, (Catharine, Jacob, born in 1829, married 1st Dianna Sunday, 2nd to Susanna Hoch, Charles, born 1813, died 1876, married Polly Altenderfer, Judith married Reuben Dietrich, Annie, Catharine married Reuben Schlegel, Sallie, unmarried, Dianna, Susa born April 15, 1833 married John Hoch, Hettie married Henry Schlegel, Leana, unmarried, Betzy (Elizabeth) married John Sittler, Caroline, unmarried, Aaron; 4. Benjamin, a county commissioner, married Sarah Sittler and had (Jacob, born 1826, Daniel, born 1828, Helena, William); 5. Betzy, married Jacob Ahn; 7. Ann, married George Grover. Joseph Kutz was born in 1800 and died 1869. He was a farmer in Greenwich township, Berks County, he was married to Elizabeth Mertz and they had 10 children,1. Judith,2. Sallie,3. Jacob,4. Susanna,5. Susanna, wife of John Hoch, they lived in Kutztown. Children; Sarah, married Percivil Heffer, Annie, who married Austin Herman, Samue, married 1st Ellla Martin, 2nd Millie Hartzel, Clara, married Daniel Grim of Kutztown. 5. Charles, married Polly Altenderfer and had children; Sarah, married Frank Printzenhoff. Manumiller, Aaron, married Katie Brown, Annie married William Gruber, Wilson, married Agnes Christ, Maurice who moved to IL., Clara, Katie, Howard, married Lydia Hottenstein, Joseph, Lydia, Eugene. ___________________________________ John Jacob Kutz, baptized at Stuttgart, Germany, in 1685, as Kurz and later confirmed as Kutz. He was unmarried when he came to this county, and is supposed to have been one of 5 brothers, three of whom settled in Maxatawny township, one of these being Nicholas, Two settled near Carisle, where their decendants bear the name Kurtz. The Kutztown and Carisle families intermarried in later generations. John Jacob Kutz owned a large tract of land, he married Christina Kohler. Children; Jacob, settled at Wilkes Barre and he died there; Samuel, settled in Montgomery county; Benjamin at Reading, Berks county and had a son, Samuel, who lived in Los Angeles, CA; Elizabeth, who married Benjamin Frick, and lived in Reading; Sarah married Gideon Dry and lived in Rockland, Berks county; Hannah married Jacob Angstadt and lived in Rockland; and one who drowned as a child. John Kutz, probably a grandson of John Jacob and Christina (Kohler) Kutz, was born at Kutztown, June 1, 1801 and died in Allentown March, 1887. Member of the United Brethren Church. He married Ann, d/o Jacob Diener and had children; Mary Ann, born 1823, married John Walter, and they lived in Allentown; Susanna married Alexander Stettler; Hannah married Charles DeLong; Elias of New Holland, Lancaster; Levi; Fianna who married George Levan; Franklin, lived in Reading; Henry, lived in Phila., and died 1910 aged 67; Louisa, married Henry Rice; Amanda, married Emaunel Reinhard. Samuel, son of John and Anna, born at Topton, died in Allentown in 1897. He married Caroline Dry, born in 1828, and died 1906. Members of Evangelical Church. Children; Charles, Alvin F., James. Wilson, John, Frederick, Mary, who married Joseph P. Snyder, Amanda, who married Winfield Becker of Allentown, Henry and Sarah who died young. Alvin F., born at Topton, Oct. 30, 1849. He married March 10, 1877, Ella S.,d/o Peter and Ann (Hartman) Buchman of Allentown. Children; Annie who married Harry S. Landis, and they had (Frederick W., Mamie, who married Claude Steckel, and they had Althea and Elizabeth). Levi, son of John and Anna (Diener) Kutz, was born at Topton, July 2, 1824. Moved to Allentown in 1837. He married Sept. 25, 1862 to Susan Haak, d/o John of Lyons. Children; George, died in infancy, Edward of Allentown, Lizzie who married Charles Schneck, Annie, died as a baby, William, born 1873, died 1906, Katie, who married John Marlburg, Mamie. _____________________________________ Nicholas Coutz, Nov 18, 1729 bought a tract of land in Maxatawny township, Phila. County. Nicholas Kutz had sons; John and Nicholas Jr. John Kutz, a son of Nicholas, had a sn, Daniel, who had a son, Benjamin, had sons, Nicholas of Berks county, and Ira G., the former DA of Reading. _____________________________________ Berks County History Kutz John, a lawyer of Reading, was born in Reading, Jan 16, 1865. Jacob, John, Adam, John, Adam, John, thus run the christian names of the Kutz family from the great-great-great-grandfather to the present generation. Jacob and John were leading farmers of Berks county before the days of the Rev., while the first Adam moved into the village of Reading and began the manufacture of hats, being, together with Samuel Homan (also the great grandfather of John J.
