Scheimer, Schumer, Shymer, Sheymer, Shoeimer. as the name appers in a variety of forms in the old records. Jacob sheimer, who was born in Gersheim, Rheinpfalz, Bavaria, Germany,in 1679 and his will probated Oct 5, 1757. The date of arrivial here is not known, but he was naturalized in 1730, and prior to 1734 paid quite rent to the English goverment on one hundred acres at Skippack in Germantown township, Phila. Co. Jacob Schmeier married 1st between 1720 and 1722 to Margaret (who died 1730) a d/o Heivert and Elizabeth (Ruttinghuysen) Papin, and a granddaugter of William Ruttinghuysen, who came fro Broig, Hollan and settled at Germantown, was the first Mennonite bishop in thes county. One of his great-grandson was David Rittenhouse, the celebrated astronomer. Mr. Scheimer married 2nd to Elizabeth, whose family name is not on record. Bt his 1st marriage he had children; Abraham, who married Lena Westbrook, Anthony, Elizabeth, who married ___Vickerson, Mary, married Michael Shoemaker, Catharine married ___Young, Sarah. By his second marriage there were; Jacob, Conrad, born 1736, died unmarried, Samuel born 1738, Edward, Peter born between 1741 and 49, Isaac, born Aug 6, 1749 taken prisoner at Fort Washington, Nov. 16, 1776, rank of that of a 3rd Lt., and he died April 19, 1838, John about 7151 and died prior to 1768. Jacob Shimer, the eldest son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Scheimer), was born in Skippack, June 14, 1734, and died of Smallpox in 1764, his tombstone being the oldest in the Saucon graveyard. During the Indian massacres of 1755-56 he enlisted under Capt. Jacob Arndt. He married Rosina Sheip, who was born in Michaelstadt, Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, and came to Ameirca at age 13. Children; Peter, born 1760, married 1st to Anna Maria Lerch, 2nd Elizabeth (Kratzer) Lerch, widow of Philip, Samuel, bor 1762, married April 24, 1791 to Elizabeth Schuelpp (Shilp), and John. John Shimer, s/o Jacob and Rosina, was born April 4, 1764, he married Salome Van Buskirk, Children; Nathan, August B., Jacob married Mary More, Charles B., John, married Lydia Schantz, Mary married Jacob Grim and Elizabeth married Jacob Apple. August B. son of John and Salome, was born in Reddington, Northampton county and later lived in Shimersville. He married Elizabeth Shimer and had children; William L., who married Elizabeth Heller, Abraham S., Susanna, died unmarried, Nathan married Lydia E. Boyer. Abraham S., son of August and Elizabeth (Shimer) Shimer, was born at Reddington. He married Clara A. Boyer, born in Broadway, NJ and they had; B. Luther, Ira, married Lillian Danbrook, Mary C., married Robert B. Keys Jr, David married Laura Fatzinger, Noah A., Clara E., married Jacob Green, Aaron B., married Florence Weidner.
