It is so sad when records are destroyed. My maiden name was Youngkin and the area where my David W was from those records were also destroyed in a fire. I'm hoping someday some one will find some records in al old bible and solve the mystery for me. Can't find out who his parents were. We have an idea but need the proof. Naming patterns point to it, and the people living in the area at that time we know he belongs to one of them. Those records were lost in 1828 in a fire so no records from 1797 to then. The church was in Kunkletown and is St Mathews. Do your churches there send records into the headquarters of that synod. They do here. I was wondering if any people living there who are related to the Christmans might have a bible with some records in it. Are there still lots of Christmans in Christman, Pa area. How big is the church and is there a web site for it with pictures? I'd love to see what it looks like. Thanks waiting for you findings and reply. Our school ended here the 29th of May graduation was the 30th. Thanks again. Connie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: mcfarlandfamily Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.monroe/1154.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Much of my family is buried there. My mom attended as a child, my aunt still does. Unfortunately, the fire in the 1960s took care of the records that the church held. Thankfully, the newer records were mostly spared by a quick thinking firefighter in the latest fire. They are currently being restored, according to the Times News. They don't even have reliable records of where old burials took place in the cemetery, so they've had to close the whole center to burials so they don't disturb anyone! It's a big disappointed to me because that church and cemetery are a huge part of my history. All I have are a few certificates handed down through generations. The only suggestion I've had is to see if any of the libraries have pastoral records. So far I've had no luck on that route. I've checked Dimmick & Easton so far. Give me a week or two to be done with school (I teach) and I can see what pastor names you may be seeking based on the few records I have. 3. Geri, my sister married a Houck from Plainfield Township, Northampton County. As I was doing research of her husbands family I found records tying the name Hawk, Hauck and Houck soon after the Rev. War. I wanted to point this out as another event of the past that created BRICK WALLS for descendants researching the Hawk name. Reasons are still not clear if it was the census takers, family feuds or what ever else the reasons of the past. Gordon A. It uses a Jim Thorpe, Pa. mailing address with a zip code of 18229. The phone is 570-325-3757. The church is currently undergoing repairs due to a arson fire about a year ago. The interior was pretty well burned up so if the church records were inside the church, they may be gone. I could not find the pastor's name. The cemetery is across the street from the church. There are about 100 headstones there. I visited the cemetery today and I did locate the headstone for Adam D., Julia, Barbara & Susan. Also nearby are headstones for Lucy A., Mary E., Irwin F. & Joseph Freeby. I have photographs of the headstones. Send me your email address I will send you the photographs. 3. allentown, pa. it was a tradition in the keiper family that the 1st of the name here was a settler of 1763; and doubtless the tradition is well founded, though the name does not appear in the assessment of 1764. john keiper, who came here in 1763, lived where franklin good now resides on 7th st. he died july 4, 1833, his sons were, john, peter, david, daniel and george. augustus, a son of john and catharine (keck) and annie seip, daus. of daniel, now reside in the city. sarah the oldest dau. of john keiper (first) married a massey. nancy w/o john wagner, soldier of the war of 1812, catharine married capt. john f. ruhe; and another dau. was the wife of john haines. henry keiper, a bro. of john (1st) was in the rev. army, fought at the battle of germantown, and after the war settled in allentown. he lived on walnut st near 6th. one of his daus., catharine married peter good, and was the mother of tilghman good; another, elisabeth married jacob hagenbuch. john, a son of henry keiper, is now r! epresented by a son, gabriel, who lived in allentown. getz, william of kidder twp, our subject is a native of pa. was born in monroe co. march 31, 1824, s/o conrad and margaret (weiss) getz, also native of that county. william, attended the public schools of monroe co. he married elizabeth, d/o joseph serfuss, now deceased. to them was born a family, of whom the following survive, emery, e.s., salome, wf of henry silfies, alice, wf of charles baumgardner, sabilla married harrison schmale, millard, ira, ulysses, william, clara, wf of john heimback, herbert and eddie.
