Best Wishes, Geri -----Original Message----- From: D. Small Gilligan Sent: Thursday, December 4, 2008 2:41 PM To: panortha@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PANORTHA] hunsicker-walter-schmal/smale Thanks, Geri. There are some Small's in this list (no matter how the name is spelled) that I have been looking for. Are they all church records, or are some of them regular county records? This couple: "schmal, killian to eva weiskoffer 11 dec. 1757", is a case in point in the spelling as it pertains to immigrants' family events being recorded by whoever submits the record following the event. This Killian's last name was properly spelled Schmahl and is the son of the 1743 immigrants Lorentz and Eva (Uber) Schmahl. Killian was from what became Windsor Township, York County, carved out of Lancaster County. An interesting point: the proper spelling of Eva's name was Welschhance, as noted in the published family's genealogical records. It must have been a bone of contention at the time because the family's genealogical records includes a half-page at the back of the book labeled "Welschance." One paragraph on that page reads this way: "In the latter part of the last century" (the book was published in 1901) "several members of the family testified in a case before the York courts that the old and proper spelling of the name was Welschhance, but it has been changed to Welshantz, Welschance, etc." Darlene ----- Original Message ----- From: "geri brennan" <gerifelker@webtv.net> To: <panortha@rootsweb.com>; <pacarbon@rootsweb.com>; <pamonroe@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 04, 2008 1:36 PM Subject: [PANORTHA] hunsicker-walter-schmal/smale whitpain reformed ch. hunsicker, harry to catharine shoemaker, 7 march 1824 culp, jacob to catharine hunsicker, 1 june 1828 ziegler, abraham to elizabeth hunsicker, 17 march 1829 lancaster co. leisy, isaac to susanna walter, 4 jan 1824 schmal, killian to eva weiskoffer, 11 dec. 1757 walter, michael to elizabeth rodt, 31 jan 1758 peter, henry to anna maria heilman, 9 june 1758 monroe co. schmal georg 19 dec 1811, jost and catharine schmel abraham june 1783 jost and catharine smale amanda j. nee heckman, w/o william h, oct 29, 1853-dec 21, 1929 catharine amanda, w/o joseph, may 24, 1844-may 5, 1874 catharine , w/o david, 1843-1917 cecelia , d/o joseph smale and catharine leibenguth, oct 2, 1853-died 1853, born in carbon co. daisy s. w/o george h. 1881 edna, w/o ervin s., 1890-1967 david, h/o catharine, 1843-1916 elizabeth nee kresge, w/o joseph and d/o joseph w. and lucinda (andrew) kresge, 1848-1923 emma nee roth, w/o __ smale and d/o david and elizabeth roth, oct 8, 1850-jan 7, 1930 ervin s.. h/o edna, s/o david and catharine, mach 22, 1884-march 25, 1975 florence l 1912-1934 george h. , h/o daisy s. and s/o william and amanda j. 1879-1956 harrison, s/o joseph and sena (kunkle) smale, may 17, 1857-july 19, 1861 john, h/o susanna nee shupp and s/o john and elisabeth (serfass) small, jan 21, 1837-feb. 10, 1901 pvt. co. g. 142nd regt pa. vol. inf. joseph h/o elizabeth nee kresge and s/o john and elizabeth (serfass) 1840-1917 maria elisabeth, d/o joseph and sena (kunkle) smale, april 24, 1854-july 17, 1862 nathan, dec 31, 1867-oct 25, 1873 preston r. s.o william and amanda j. 1884-19-6 susanna nee shupp, w/o john and d/o nathan and sallie ann (dorshimer) shupp, feb. 17, 1843-may 15, 1875 william h. husband of amanda j. nee heckman, nov 28, 1854-aug 3, 1900 walther, john henry to anna magdalena grimm, 17 feb 1760 walther, christian widower to elizabeth blazer 24 -- 1761 walter, john tp elizbeth weber, 21 nov 1773 rheinhard, ludwig to catharine walter,, 28 aug 1774 montgomery co walter, matthais to anna maria haag, both widowed. 28 march 1750 buskirk, rev. jacob to mary hollebach, 15 march 1764 in phila. by rev. muhlenberg walter, jacob to catharine reiter, 19 march 1820 hunsicker, benjamin to catharine winters, 19 sept 1844 bartman, william to mary r. hunsicker, 21 nov 1863 lebanon co. hunsicker, philip to anna maria noll, 17 nov 1811 redman, john to magdalena walter, 5 march 1811 walter, peter to elizabeth schramm 16 june 1811 walter, daniel to lydia hartman, 31 oct 1831 carbon co. hundsicker, joseph 10 nov 1815, henrich and eva hunsicker henrich 19 feb 1814 henrich and eva jones 6 july 1824, heinrich and eva-all 3 at ben salem walter boas 18 march 1808 samuel and margaret catharine 16 feb 806 samuel and margaret thomas, adult, bp 6 jun 1808, not given and not given, all 3 at ben salem hunsicker, lea, 21 oct 1818, heinrich and eva.ben salem Best Wishes, Geri PAGenWeb Northampton ~ http://pa-roots.com/~northampton/ Northampton Archives ~ http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/northampton/ PAGenWeb ~ Bucks County ~ http://www.pagenweb.org/~bucks Bucks County History and Genealogy ~ http://www.BucksCountyHistory.com Pennsylvania GenWeb ~ http://www.pagenweb.org ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PANORTHA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message PAGenWeb Northampton ~ http://pa-roots.com/~northampton/ Northampton Archives ~ http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/northampton/ PAGenWeb ~ Bucks County ~ http://www.pagenweb.org/~bucks Bucks County History and Genealogy ~ http://www.BucksCountyHistory.com Pennsylvania GenWeb ~ http://www.pagenweb.org ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PANORTHA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
