I have e-mailed a DAR Regent in Monroe Co. on March 14, 2009. She e-mailed me back that she was in busy phase until early April and gave me e-mail for chapter registrar. I e-mailed registrar on March 23, 2009. Have never heard back from her (May 2,2009) and have e-mailed numerous times. E-mailed Regent again on Apr. 11, 2009 she responded back that she cc'd my e-mails to registrar. E-mailed Regent April 25, 2009 about help please as registrar has not contacted. No contact from regent, May 2, 2009. I have given both of them my name, address, home phone, e-mail. Does anyone know if you have to apply for DAR membership in the county in which you live? Or can I apply somewhere else? Thanks for any help. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Per what my friend was told her grandmother died in child birth. My friend's mother was Emma Miller born 1922 and Emma was definitely a niece of Alfred Nipert (per 1943 news clipping of the wedding of Emma to Drexel Ace in Stroudsburg). Author: timoconnor1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.monroe/420.1.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Census records from Monroe County, PA. Specifically, the 1850 census. Age of William (24) and location, basically. Yes, nothing more definitive than that, other than ... I have an autobiography of the wife (Nancy Edington) of Theodore Fisher (my ancestors), he from the same area in PA, that denotes 'the first man he met' on their second day in Waterloo (9/8/1867) was William, 'an old school mate of his when he was a boy, born and raised in his father's neighborhood'. [FYI: Theodore/Nancy found their first place to stay in Waterloo with the help of William.] Now, when Nancy wrote the bio many years later, she may have exaggerated the 'neighborhood' term just a little (she also would have been limited to what her husband told her). Theodore was from Stroud Twp and William was from Smithfield Twp, but they were certainly in close proximity to one another and clearly knew each other from childhood. So, I'm fairly certain that I have the correct William, from the 1850 census, listed with his father Henry. Regarding William, I have seen the History of BHC book that makes reference to him. Memory serves me that he ran a grocery in /near Raymond. Theodore/Nancy later bought a farm east of Waterloo. You can find my email address from this link: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=toconnor I would be interested in anything further that the obit may indicate about his birth/youth. Where would I find church records or >tax lists? Any library with PA history will have the resources. Humphrey's births books go over county by county the churches, it's basically an index to pre-1800 church lists. Tax lists are fairly well published and go back the furthest, but all you get is head of household. All of those resources are at both the Monroe Co Hist Soc and the Eastern Monroe Public Library which are going to be your best local places to go for info. At the 1749 time frame though, about the only church records you're going to get is Hamilton Lutheran. For more extensive resources for all of PA try the Marx Room at the Easton Public Library. 3. Thanks so much Geoff! Was Fort Penn close to Lower Smithfield? I am also looking for marriage, birth and death records from this area in the period from 1749 to 1770 which was prior to the family's move into the hornet's nest of what was the Wyoming Valley. Where would I find church records or tax lists?
