According to the 1880 census they were living in Landingville,Schuykill County, Peacy was 7 years old ,adopted , and in school. Henry is listed as a boatman. I also found a Peace Price in the 1880 census living in New Castle,Schuykill, working as a maid for John Jenkins as a servant. I have not been able to learn anything else. I found two other articles regarding Peacy's accident. Here's some additional information: News Article - Daily Times, Stroudsburg, PA, Vol.11-No.196; Wednesday, November 16, 1904; page 1 column 6 Excepts: "WOMAN'S CLOTHES ON FIRE" .while making scrapple in a large iron pot which was suspended over a fire in the yard at her home. The house they lived in was two and a half miles from Porter's Lake. It also states there were four children which contradicts the December 23 article which states there were only three. News Article - Daily Times, Stroudsburg, PA, Vol.11-No.227; Wednesday, December 21, 1904; page 1 column 5 Mrs. Keim who was seriously burned some time ago at Beaver Run is not much improved and the Beaver Run Club have sent two trained nurses to see to her wants. The club is to be commended upon its forethought and generosity. I think they really meant the Porter's Lake Hunting & Fishing Club - not Beaver Run Club. I kept looking because I was hoping to find something with her first name. By the way, the spellings and punctuation are mostly as they appeared on the microfilm, but I did mistype the word 'abvove'! The good news is that I found both of them in a 1904 newspaper. The bad news is that their deaths might be a bit upsetting to read about - especially hers... Obituary - Daily Times, Stroudsburg, PA, Vol.11-No.170; Monday, October 17, 1904; page 1 column 3 Death of John S. Keims John S. Keims, 38 years of age who has been steward at the Porter's Lake Club, died Saturday afternoon after having suffered with asthma for a long time. He was formerly of Spring City, Chester county and owing to poor health decided to come to this section. He was well known by persons who visited the Hunting Club. He is survived by a wife and three children. The family occupied a house at Beaver Run and the wife and three children were present when the death occurred. The remains were brought to East Stroudsburg by Burnett & Raub and today were sent to Spring City, a brother having arrived to accompany them. The funeral will take place Thursday. News Article - Daily Times, Stroudsburg, PA, Vol.11-No.227; Friday, December 23, 1904; page 1 column 3 Burns Caused Death Mrs. John Keims Suffered Untold Agony Before End Come Lived at Beaver Run Woman Who Took Position Made Vacant by Death of Her Husband Follow Him to the Grave Despite the Aid of Trained Nurses and a Physician Survived by Children Mrs. John Keims of Beaver Run who was so seriously burned a few weeks ago as the result of her clothing taking fire while she was working about a fire in the yard died Thursday morning as a result of her injuries. Mrs. Keims' husband was steward for the Porter's Lake Hunting and Fishing Club, removed from Spring City, Chester county, owing to being a sufferer from asthma and he believed his health would be benefited in this section. He died and nine weeks ago yesterday was buried. Mrs. Keims was then appointed to his position and it was while looking after the duties the accident occurred. She was working about a large boiler and her clothing burned so rapidly the flames could not be extinguished until her right leg was burned from the ankle above the hip and her left leg was burned from the knee to abvove the hip. The Club a few days ago sent two trained nurses to look after her, but death ended her terrible sufferings. From the first it was thought she could not reco! ver, the flesh burned in a frightful manner. Dr. Smith of Bushkill, had been attending her. The body was removed to this borough and today taken to Spring City where it will be buried beside that of her husband. There are a number of small children surviving. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: gwyllian Surnames: Depue Erb Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.monroe/1176/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Died at Stroudsburg, Pa., January 6th, 1862, Mrs. Ann Erb, aged 81 years. It is thought that the character and history of the deceased were such as to call for something more than a simple announcement of her death. She was a lineal descendant of the Hugernots.- Her maiden name was Depue. Her paternal ancestor was one of those who after the rivocation of the Edict of Nantes, for the 'faith's sake' left home and fatherland, and went to Holland, sojourning there for a time and then emigrating to free America. His descendants in this land continued to manifest love for God's truth and for the ordinance of his house. And it was chiefly thought the zeal and liberality of one of these, the grandfather it is believed of the deceased, that more than a hundred years ago, there was erected on the hill side that skirts the Shawnee flats, the stone church, which was a few years since removed and a neat brick structure placed on the old foundation. To this little church of her fathers, and in the burial place of her kindred, close by it her heart clung wi! th peculiar love. To the church organization there she left a legacy large in proportion to the amount of her property. And there in accordance with her oft-repeated request, her dust rests now with much of kindred dust. Of her descent from those who had some such noble testimony for Christ and the truth, she was accustomed to speak much; not in the spirit of boasting, but of devout thanksgiving to God, that she had been so privileged and honored. And she was not unworthy of such ancestry. -Hers was the very Huguenot spirit. Her disdaguishing characteristic was ardent love for the truth in its purity, and holy abhorrence of every form of error; strong desire for the advancement of Christ's kingdom and uncompromising hostility to evil in any guise. And endowed with superior intellectual powers, improved by much reading and reflection, and retaining her vigor to the last; she was enabled though leading a very retired life and never over-stepping those bounds which God's! word as well as good taste, assigns to woman, to exert a wide influen ce for good and against evil in the community. Chastened by affliction; the world had lost it's hold upon her. Her body the prey to a disease which makes death probable at any moment; she lived for years in constant expectation of a sudden summons. And this position on the confines of the other world, she accepted gladly; seeming always like one standing on the border and looking over joyfully into the "promised land." All who were permitted to see much of her, felt that to commune with her was to get nearer to the Heavenly World. And so the quiet sleep in which the Lord was pleased to call her spirit away, may well be to us a token, that for her, death was but an easy and blessed transition into that world. The Monroe Democrat, publication date January 16, 1862; page 2 columns 5-6. (Stroudsburg, Monroe County, PA.) In this Borough, on the 6th inst., Mrs. Ann Erb, aged about 81 years. The Monroe Democrat, publication date January 9, 1862; page 2 column 6. (Stroudsburg borough Monroe County, PA.) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Hannah GRATTAN WILLIAMS which was taken at the Price Studio in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with Hannah appearing to be in her 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Hannah and her family: Hannah GRATTAN b. 1847 in Middle Smithfield Township, PA to parents Matthew George GRATTAN (b. 6 May 1818 in Ireland) and Maria "Mary" Magdelena SHOEMAKER (b. 2 Mar 1825 in Northampton Co. PA). Hannah married Peter S. WILLIAMS (b. about 1843 in PA) and together they had a daughter, Lena G. WILLIAMS b. about 1875 in Monroe Co. PA. Hannah died in 1936 and is buried in the Sand Hill Cem. In Monroe Co. PA. Census records provide the following information: 1860 census of Middle Smithfield, PA: Thomas GRATTAN, age 64, born Ireland Hannah C. GRATTAN, age 6, born PA William H.
