I am trying to clear-up a confusion on JOHN B. SMITH and JOHN HUFF of Pike County Pa. I have a MARY BELOOF who marries a JOHN B. Smith in my records. I was given this info from the Smith file at Monroe County Historical Society. I also found, at the Smith Funeral Home Monroe County, a listing for an ANDREW SMITH whose parents were listed as John B. and Mary Beloof Smith. In the Pike County Census I found John and Mary in 1860 with Andrew as one of their children. On a CD someone has listed a JOHN HUFF with MARY BELOOF as his wife in the same time period with the same children as my JOHN B. SMITH and MARY. OK, we can't have two men with the same wife. I am not saying I am correct, I just want to put Mary with the correct spouse. I have sent this message to both Monroe and Pike Counties listings since the Smith and BELOOF families are in both Counties. Is there anyone from either the SMITH or HUFF families, that can help me and several others, clear up this confusion? Thanks for your time and help. Sandy Lesh WV

Eva Nichols so that's probably 5. There's a much older Elias m. Catharine Brotzman circa 1790. The family goes way back in Monroe Co. history to the Stroud Tsp/Middle Smitfield border and I believe is related to the one buried in St Pauls. (St Pauls was the church of most of the Brotzman's and Detrick's in that area) There's the Elias you already knew. There's two others I know in the west end, both born more like 1850's era - one m. Elizabeth Broztman in 1867 and another moved to Iowa just before the Civil War. -- ========================================================================= Geoff Crawford Phone: (973) 361 - 4224 Innov8 Computer Software, LLC FAX: (973) 537 - 6946 75 Fleetwood Drive, Suite 200 Email: [email protected] Rockaway NJ 07886 Web: http://www.innov8cs.com ProcessWare Financials - so you don't have to reinvent the Accounting wheel The only Progress based GL/AR/AP made just for ISV's and Consultants
I just received the death certificate for Juliann Fleming, wife of William Fleming from Hamilton Twp. The certificate lists her parents as Elias Detrick and Eva Nicholas. I thought Elias was married to Mary Mosey. Elias and Mary are buried at St Paul's, Smithfield Twp. Can anyone shed some light on Eva? Thanks, Pam

Back in January of this year, Georgette Ochs sent the story of The Rose Inn to the PANORTHA-L taken from "Frontier Forts of Pennsylvania." The story mentioned that a group of people taking shelter from the Indians at The Rose were all from Contented Valley--my "Sylvases" being one of the surnames mentioned. Around that time I asked if anyone knew where Contented Valley actually was. Thanks to one of Candace E. Anderson's books, "Miscellaneous Public Records, 1758 to 1767" p. 30, I learned from an abstract of a 1754 petition she has in her book, that Contented Valley was likely what was shortly to become Chesnuthill Township. >From Candy's book with her permission: The Petitioners were "inhabitants of Contented Valley." The Petition: For the formation of Chestnuthill Township; the present township was too large and they were obliged "to work at makeing the Roads near Twenty Miles from some of their Habitations." Borders: New township would go from Henry FRANCE Settlement then along the Blue Mountains down far enough to take in Weaver MICKEL's old settlement, then over the second mountain called Second Blue Mountain, then to include Larence KUNKEL, then back to the beginning "wich we Recken it will be Nine or Then Miles Broad and Twelve Miles Long." On the back of this record it said "allowed if the township joined Lower Smithfield and Dry Gap (now called Wind Gap) or near it; Fred-k HOET and Philip SERFASS were to assess and report back to court." This is one of the many wonderful facts I've found in Candace Anderson's books--she has five! They can be seen at Closson Press: http://www.clossonpress.com/index.jsp Keyword search: Candace I just can't recommend them enough. Marie.
Well hello Kay, how are you? I'm thinking of going up to Monroe County later this week and copy a lot of records. My husband shudders because they cost alot to copy at the Hist. Soc., and even the library charges .50 cents a page. This lady bugged me to send her a copy, and I told her I wasn"t too well and I couldn't get to a copying center. Well she bugged and bugged, and I said I would send mine Reg. Mail, I also sent her a Reg. Mail stamp and envelope. I asked her to copy the 3 lists and send them right back. She didn't even have to go to the post office, all she had do was hand it to her mail carrier. She no longer answers e-mails, so I guess I'm never gone to get them back. Oh well such is life. I'm working early because of the heat and I do mean heat. Take it easy and stay out of the heat. Best Wishes, Geri
Geri, Charging .50 cents a page is pretty steep. I'm also going up to PA in August. I hope it has cooled down by the time I get here. It's pretty hot down her in AL too but most everything is air-conditioned so we 'don't sweat it'. We are closing our book store so I am going to take a month off and visit friends and relatives in PA. I've researched most of the Hist. Soc. , churches and courthouse and have run out of places to go from here. I still haven't found the family of my Wm. H. Martz because he was raised by John and Rebecca Philips. I was hoping to find some older Philip's families around Stroudsburg and see if the name Martz jogged any of their memories. Try to stay cool. Kay
Hi, I no longer have the list, I was foolish enough to take someone at their word that they would return it, and I did not have the time to make a copy. So someone on this board (well maybe they are no longer on the board) has the list, and I think the very least they could do a look-up for you. It is said that the older tombstone were washed away by the flood of 1950. I have some Houck History, if you are interested. Best Wishes, Geri
Who are you looking for? Best Wishes, Geri
Geri, I copied the Reeders and Appenzell cemeteries that you graciously put on the PAMONROE site. They are the ones where my relatives are buried. I wish now I wouldl have copied all of them. If anyone wants me to do lookups from these 2 cemeteries I would be happy to do it. Kay in Alabama
