Hi, I was told that too. But I was working with a family working with Ott a few years back, and they took the heat, and said the name was never Utt or Utz, it was always Ott. We got all the Rev. War and 1812 and they were Otts. Best Wishes, Geri
Hi Geri, When a person goes thru the census and finds the family one year as Ott and ten years latter as Utt, I feel a genealogist has to present those spellings. They may not be of the same origin in the old country, BUT. Just as there is documentation of the name change from Utt to Utz. Anyway, the ship captains, immigration and census takers spelled the name as they wanted to spell it. Also the family descendants spelled the name as they wished and changed it themselves many times. One of my Ancestors of the Montgomery Co. Hartzell/Hartzel/Hersel to the 13th century Hirzil is a prime example. I am new at this but I was told early DO NOT GET HUNG UP ON SPELLING. ----- Original Message ----- From: "geri brennan" <[email protected]> To: "Gordon Koerner" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 11, 2002 6:15 AM Subject: Re: Utt/Koerner Hi Gordon, you are saying Utt and Ott are the same. Park anywhere near the intersection. Walk noth through to the field to a wooded, bushey area. There are 33 tombstones with names and dates and about 4 or 5 stone with only initials and the year of death. Dates on tomebstone indcate this burial siste was used between 1821 and 1897. Many members of the Arnold family are buried here including members of the Murphy and Werkheiser families who were related to the Arnolds through marriage. Best Wishes, Geri
Young's Burial Ground; This graveyard was located somewhere in Hamilton township. It is mentioned in the Matthews history of Monroe County Also the death and burial reports by township from 1893 to 1905 include two burials here. These were Michael Bond, who died at Sciota in 1902, and Julia Tittle, who died at Sciota in 1898. This burial ground may have envolved into some other cemetery. However, tombstones have not been found for either of the above burials at any graveyard in or around Hamilton Township. The burial ground was probably the family graveyard of Nicholas Young and his children. Nicholas Young purchased a tract of land in Hamilton Township from Thomas and Richard Penn in 1763. He had a son, Nicholas Jr., who inherited the propert and was married to a Miss "Rummage. Best Wishes, Geri
Hi, Does anyone have any information on a cemetery (old) just off Metzgar Rd in Hamilton twp? It is known as " the Eyer cemetery" and " the Arnold cemetery" but I recently heard it referred to as the "Young burial ground." I'm at [email protected] Thanks, Leon Young

typo, Theodore A., a lawyer from Lehighton, was probably Allen from Lehighton, now to straighten out William and did he married Elizabeth Utt, that would make Elizabeth, Theodore A or Allen's mother. So I went to another county history and found that Allen Snyder, a lawyer married Emma Hauk, d/o John and Sarah Hauck of Lehighton, and that makes more sense I think. Best Wishes, Geri
Monroe County John Snyder, grandfather, was among the pioneer of Northampton County. George Snyder, father moved to Stroud township. Morning Geri, I thought I had all the early Elizabeth Utt's listed in my tree, but I do not seem to have this one. I have four of them and two Elias Utt's. One is the Rev.War Elias and the other is the s/o Adam brother to #1 Elias. Adam was also in Rev. War. It is my understanding the Utt's all lived in Bangor and branched out after Rev. War. I do not have any children listed for #2 Elias, who lived and died in Upper Mt. Bethel. The Elizabeth I have who died in 1888, was b. in Ohio and d. in Illinois.
