    3. The Breyfogel (sometimes Breyfogel and Breyvogel) history has not been definitely traced beyond the shores of the New World. There are two traiditions concerning the origin of the family-one giving the early home in Holland the other in France. The general appearance of the family with the dark complexion, black hair and eyes of the Latin races, gives great weight to the former, for the blue eyes and flaxen hair of the Dutch are noticeably lacking. I. John Peter Breyvogel, children; George, Peter, born 1746, , died 1819, Jacob who had 2 children (Charles and Joshua), Solomon who had a daughter that married ___Row. Some records indicate a son John in the place of Solomon, but as there is nothing recorded then the name, is probably died young. II. George , son of John Peter, married Catharine (Dreibelbeis) Ely, born Dec 5, 1745 and she died Dec 7, 1819. She had 2 children by her 1st husband, a son and a daughter, both went West. To George and Catharine, children, Jacob D., Solomon, born 1780, George born 1782, Catharine born 1784 married Jacob Gross, Esther who married Jacob Hinterleiter, III. Jacob D., married Susanna Baldy, who for her 2nd husband married a Lautenslager, a relative of her daughter's husband. They lived in Lockport, NY. To Jacob and Susanna, children, Catharine, married a Lautenslager, Joshua D., born 1806, Charles who went to CA in 1849, and found and lost the Breyfogel Mine, still searched for, his wife's name was Hannah, Mariah married John Lemmon, Harriet never married, Jacob (no heirs) Josiah, died in Chicago and Lucas C., formely of Lockport. IV. Joshua D., was born at Lockport, NY and moved to Delaware, Ohio, he died Jan 28, 1868. On July 28, 1838 he married Mary Reynolds who made her home in Springfield, Ohio. Best Wishes, Geri
