Jacob Stroud, the founder of Stroudsburg, and through that worthy pioneer, from Sir William Stroud, and associate of Pym, Hampden, Hollis, and Hazelrig, in the English House of Commons during the time of Charles I. The records state that on Wednesday, April 16, 1621, Sir William moved that "tobacca" be banished wholly out of the kingdom, and that it may not be brought in, from any part nor used amongst us. Bernard Stroud, the father of Jacob was born there (in England). At age 5 he came to America with his parents, who died a few years later, and his youth was spent in Amwell, NJ. He married Keziah Harker, and after settled in Northampton county. They had 9 children, including 5 sons, James, Jacob, Bernard, Samuel and one probably name John, who was killed in early manhood in the French and Indian War. Of the 4 daughters, Jemima married Aaron Depui, Jane married Enoch Anderson, Keziah and Deborah did not marry. Jacob Stroud, was born in NJ, Jan 15, 1735. On April 6, 1761 he married Elizabeth "MacDowell", who was born June 9, 1743, a d/o John and Hannah (Depui) MacDowell. On the paternal side she was of "Scotch"-Irish descent, while on her maternal side, her grandfather, Nicholas Depui, was a French Huguenot who fled to Holland in 1685, and 20 years later came to America accompained by his wife, Winifred (Rose) and several children. Daniel Stroud, born May 22, 1777 was married 1st, Aug 7, 1792 to Elizabeth Shoemaker and had, 1. Charles, born 1793, married 1819 to Susan Burson, 2. Eliza, 3.George born 1795, 4/ William born Aug 7, 1797 died Aug 4, 1826, marriedd Oct 1, 1823 to Mary P. Robeson and they had 2 children (Morris R. born 1824, and William D., born Oct. 5, 1825) 5. Jacob, married Margaret Richardson and they had (Rebecca, Joseph, born Dec 20, 1827, Elsie and Emma) 6. James H, never married, 8. Susan, 9. Simpson,10. Elizabeth Stroudsburg-Hollinshead Burial Ground. There are 13 marked graves, nine of the Hollinshead family, two VanVliet, and two of the Stroud family. The oldest tombston marks the grave of Dirck VanVliet. John Stroud who died in 1814 and his wife Elizabeth H. (Depui) who died in 1815. Best Wishes, Geri

Gongaware, son of Michael and Catharine, was born in 1760, and died Jan 18, 1829. He married Margaretta Miller, d/o John and Catharine Miller. She died in 1823, aged 57. Jonas Gongaware, s/o Philip G., and Margetta (Miller) Gongware, was born on the Gongaware farm, near Irwin, PA. He married Christiana Naley, d/o Frederick Naley; Naley Family. Germay was the original home of the family represented by John Frederick Naley and Eli Nagley, of Manor> Nicholas Naley came from Northampton County, and settled in Manor valley. His father was a native of Germany. Nicholas Naley, his wife, Anna Catharine bore him 12 children; Eli, married Sarah Earnest, Levi Paul, Frederick John, married Hannah Schutt, Christina married Jonas Gongaware, Mary married Peter Gongaware, Lydia married Daniel Weigle, Catharine, married Daniel Truxal, Anna married Simon Lauffer, Harriet married Jonathan Schutt, Margaret married Samuel Fry and twins that died infancy. Gangwere Family-Lehigh County I. Jacob Gangewere emigrated from Germany to America on the ship "James Goodwill", landed at Phila., Sept 27, 1727. II Michael, son of Jacob, was born in 1730, he died Oct 26, 1826. He moved to Westmoreland County, where his decendants still live. III Andreas or Andrew, son of Jacob Gangwehr, was born in Upper Saucon, Sept 15, 1747, died July 10, 1844, and was buried in the cemetery at the corner of 10th and Linden streets, Allentown. He served in the Rev. and the War of 1812. He married Mary Montaigne, and had children. IV. Solomon Gangewere, s/o Andreas or Andrew and Mary, was born in 1779, and died in 1857. The members who where originally formed from this congregatuib assisted in founding the Weissenberg Church, and were of the principal communicants there. The church building stands near the northwestern boundary of Lowhil township, Lehigh County. The congregation is within a district which is bounded on the north by Heidelberg, and touches on the south the limits of the Ziegel congregation and on the east those of Morganland (formerly the Jordan congregation) The organization was effected 27 Jan 1769. Names, Jacob Bachman Jr., Jost Georg, Nicolaus Mannebach, Andreas Eschbach, Johann Hartman, Johannes Georg, Peter Weiss, Georg Georg, Engel Thomas, Jacob Bachman Sr, Nicholas Bauchman, Christoph Knor, Heinrich Kemper, Peter Kocher, Paul Bachman, Johann Simon George.     3. Heidelberg Church, Heidelberg township, Lehigh County, the church stands about 1 mile east of Saegersville, nearly in the centre of the township. The first ssettlement by the congregation was made in 1735. The number of the 1st immigrants was small consisting of isolated families who had come from Switzerland and Westphalia. The first arrivals were Jacob Peter, Casper Peter, and William Peter, three brothers, but whether their father accompaned them cannot be ascertained. Later came Johannes Hunsicker, Jacob Mayer, David "Gisi, Conrad Wirtz (now Wert) Friederich Nisele, Ulrich Neff, Heinrich Hoffman, Peter Miller, Georg Grum, and Jorg Schmalz. Between the years 1735 and 1740 there also came hither Palatines and Wurtemburgers, and strengthened the colony. Among these there were , on the Reformed side, Heinrich Ohl, Jacob Reidy, Michael Fritzinger and other; on the Lutheran side Ulrich Sensiger, Jacob "Recks, Peter Handwerk, Johann Krauss, and others. The minutes of the Reformed Church record begin in 1764 and are still in existence; of the Lutheran in 1768. On the title page of the latter appear the names of Wilhelm Rex, Casper Schnerr, Tobias Ebert and Samuel Miehl. The village of Saegersville is located near the centre of the township, 6 miles west of Slatington, 1 mile west of the Heidelberg Church and a litte over 1 mile east of the Schuylkill and Lehigh Railroad station at Germansville. Michael Ohl Sr., was the original owner. Michael Ohl having disposed of his land, moved with his family to Trumbull County, Ohio and died in 1804 at aged 74. George Warner, grandfather, was born near Nazareth, Northampton, moved to Eldred, Monroe County, returned to his native county, locating near Bath. He married Mary Rummage also a native of Northampton county, and they had 8 children; 1. George, 2. John, who married ____ Patterson, and in 1826 moved to Ohio and reared a large family, 3. Joseph, died as a young man, 4. Jacob, a soldier in the Civil war, and he died in Wisconsin, 5. Mary, who married Joseph Stout, and lived in Columbia County, 6. George Warner, was born in Northampton county, Feb. 16, 1790, died in Pocono towhship, Sept. 28, 1869. He was a Sgt in the War of 1812 and was a Capt, in the State Militia for some years. He was a Lutheran, and his wife was German Reformed. On March 1, 1812 in Hamilton twp, Monroe County, he married Elizabeth Anglemoyer, d/o John and Margaret (Marsh). Children, Peter; Charles, who married Elizabth Smith, William, marrried Elizabeth Workeizer,of Pocono twp., Jacob married Lydia Learn, of Paradise twp., Levi, married Matilda Slutter, of Jackson twp., Andrew, married Sarah Culbertson and moved to Michigan, and Samuel who married Elizabeth Snyder, of Pocono twp. Peter Warner, born at Pocono township, Dec 25, 1835, Married March 22, 1855 to Lovina Sittler, who was born in Lehigh County, Dec 28, 1832, d/o George and Mary (Stroub) Sittler. Children; 1. Edwin, an undertaker at Weatherly, Carbon County,he married Carrie Wuss and had 5 children, 2. Elmer, of Weatherly, married Anne Kreskey and had 4 children, 3.     3. Hi Geri, How are You? We're getting quite a bit of rain and some heat down her in Alabama. I have something to add to the Altemose you just posted if anyone is interested. According to my records - great-grandfather Nicholas Altemose that died in Saylorsburg was married to one of my Frantz's. She was Charlotte Julian Frantz born in 1747. She was from Alsace. Also, the 1st Mrs. Thomas Atemose (after Christinana Shupp) was one of my Millers. Jacob C. Miller born in 1829. Hopes this fits into something someone can use.     3. Hi, most Goulds (Rev. War) were from the New England are, but a few from NJ. Some went by Gold and some went Goold. There are only 4 Golds (with pensions) 1 from NY, 2 from MA., and 1 from CT. Arrivials David Davis, son of Richard Davis, of Welchpoole, in the county of Montgomery, chirurgeon, came in the ship the Morning Star, of Liverpoole, arrived in the river 14th day of the 9th month. 1683 Marriages David Davis, of Neshaminah and Margaret Evans, of the same place, 1mo, 8th, 1685/6 Deaths David Davis, of Neshainah, chirurgeon, dyed and was buryed att the buring place at Nicholas Walne, the 23 day of the 1 month 1686 Chester County David, James, of Tredyffrin, purchased land there in 1711. He died about 1744. leaving a daughter Margaret, the wife of James Abraham, Jane who married Thomas James, May 15, 1722, Eleanor who was unmarried, and some grandchildren by a deceased son, viz; James, David, Elizabeth married to David Parry, Sept 27, 1735 and 2nd to ___ Hackett, Mary married Henry Owen. Eleanor "Davis" inherited the homestead of 100 acres, and with her lived John Thomas, whose wife, Elizabeth was her neice, the daughter of her sister Jane. Eleanor Davis and John Thomas were murdered and Rachael James dangerously wounded, Aug. 1, 1757, by three men, two of whom were subsequently caught and hung. LLewellyn David of Haverford, married Nov 14, 1709 to Bridget Jones, by whom he had 4 children, Elizabeth, Isaac, Sarah and Llewellyn. His widow married April 7, 1722 James David or Davis, of Tredyffrin. Isaac David or Davis, son of Llewellyn and Bridget, married May 30, 1738 to Elizabeth, d/o John and Mary Bartholomew. He died in 1778, leaving a wife and children-Benjamin, Mary, married to John Morgan, Thomas, John, Sarah, married to Daniel Wilson, Elizabeth who married Major Ezekiel Howell, and Joseph (Dr.), his widow died in July 1779. The property was divided between the sons, Benjamin, John and Thomas. John Davis married Ann (Nancy) Morton, d/o John Morton, the signer, and had children, Isaac, John Morton, Mary, Charles, Justis, Ann, Benjamin and Albert. His service in the Revolution are set forth in a petition to Congress. In 1800, John Davis was appointed brigadier genearl of the First Brigade of the milita of Chester and Delaware Counties, and on March 31, 1803 he was commisioned an associat judge of Chester County. He died in 1827. His son, John Morton Davis was born in 1788, died in 1848, he married in 1818 to Elizabeth Knight, of Phila., by whom he had 2 children, Mary and Albert K. John M. Davis married 2nd in 1830 to Anna Maria Walley by whom he had children-William W., Henrietta, John M., Elizabeth, Isaac Henry, and Anna Maria. Best Wishes, Geri

Arie and family moved from PA to Shippekonk now the town of Montague, Sussex County, NJ. Children; "Blandia", bp 1738 married Daniel Deker, of Wallpack, NJ. IV. She was the great-granddaughter of Daniel Decker, who ran the old Decker Ferry, which crosses the Delaware river below Bushkill. His son, John Decker, was born April 24, 1780 and died March 10, 1827. He was a farmer of Wallpack, Sussex County, NJ., where he passed his entire life. His wife, Maria (Brokaw) Decker, was born Sept 19, 1787 and died July 31, 1823. Both are buried at Wallpack. His son, Peter Decker, was born Sept 18, 1806, in Wallpack. in 1838 he moved to Lehman township, Pike County. In 1867 he moved to Smithfield, Monroe County, engaged in hotel keeping, conducting the old Central Hotel, which is known as the old half- way- house, between Port Jervis and Stroudsburg. Peter Decker, married Margerie Smith, who was born July 10, 1810, d/o William and Mary (Decker) Smith of Wallpack, NJ. The mother died there, the father in Montrose, PA Peter and Margerie had the following; Mary, July 20, 1830, who married Shay Depew; Salache, Aug 4, 1832, Angeline, Dec 21, 1834,married Oliver Place; William S.., Dec 24, 1836; John, April 19, 1839, married Margaret Pipher; Hanna L., Aug 15, 1841; Belinda, Jan 15, 1844, married Joseph Bensley of Lehman township; Malvine, Sept 16, 1846, married John Overfield; George, Dec 29, 1846, married Mary Shoemaker. Moses Van Gorden, grandfather, was born in Leham township, Pike Co. On May 28, 1781 he married Elizabeth Van Etten, a native of Pike County, who father, Jacobus Van Etten, came to the county from his native county, Holland, to the US, settling in Pike Co. The Gerhard are descendant of Paul Gerhardt, the great German Poet, who lived two hundred and fifty years ago. The first Gerhardt (as the named was spelled) of the family we have any record was Christian Gerhardt, who was Burgomaster of Gruesenhaerchen, Germany in 1637. He had 5 children one of whom was the poet Paul. The poet had one son, Frederick, and his son was Christoper, Christoper's son was William and his son was Frederick who was born March 26, 1714 in Langenselbold, a town in the Wittrau, Hessel Cassel. Frederick's parents were members of the Reformed Church. On Jan. 22, 1737 Frederick Gerhardt married Elizabeth Fischer, and soon after coming to America, settling in Phila., where a son Peter was born Oct 28, 1737, and not long after his wife died, Frederick then moved to his vincinity of Heidelberg, where on Feb. 14, 1740 he married a widow whose maiden name was Barbara Reiger. Children; Frederick, born 1744 and his son Frederick was born in 1770. Rev. William T. Gerhard, Rev. D.W. Gerhard's father was born Dec 10, 1809 and died Aug 29,1886, having been for many years among the clergy of Lancaster Co. He married Elizabeth Seibert, a d/o Jacob of Lancaster Co..Children; Rev.
