Dear Mifflin County researchers, I am beginning to plan a week's trip to Mifflin County in June to do some intensive research and would greatly appreciate some advice about what records are available. Want especially to see the land records themselves, not just the indexes microfilmed by the Utah Genealogical Society. Are those still housed there? Aren't a lot of different Pennsylvania documents preserved in the Orphan's Court records. Are they also still at the courthouse there? Any other sources for estate papers, wills, etc.? Where is the Historical Society located? And does anyone know their hours of operation? Of particular interest to me are really early records...from the beginning of the county to mid-1800s. May also have to check out Cumberland if I can't find what I need in Lewistown. Would Harrisburg be at all helpful? Unfortunately, I know quite a lot about Ohio and Iowa and other locations further west, but have absolutely no clue about Pennsylvania. So any advice you could share would be very helpful.
