They were residents of McClure PA and are buried in the Samuels Cemetery. Much of the information I gained through personal research of original records and generally reliable secondary records. Some information obtained from other researchers I can say I trust but I've not had time to personally verify all that has been given to me. The information is offered as starting points for investigation, not as "finished" genealogical data. The Spigelmyer [Spittlemyer> Spitelmayer> Spittlemire] family has been traced back to 1659 in the village of Hoffenheim, Germany (12 mi. SE of Heidelberg). Martin and Maria Spitelmayer sailed from Rotterdam 8/28/1733. They arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship HOPE (Daniel Reed, Master), with children Anna Maria (age 24), Anna Madlena [Magdalena?] (age 21) and Hans Adam (age 18). Hans Adam is held to be Annie's ancestor. After a sojourn in Berks County PA, Spigelmyers migrated westward into the portions of Northumberland Co. that now comprise Union and Snyder Counties. In time, some moved further westward across the line from Snyder Co. into Mifflin Co., portions of which became Juniata Co. in 1831. Annie's great-grandfather, Valentine Spigelmyer, is believed to have lived in the two-level log cabin that was on the property of his descendant Walter Spigelmyer, RD#1, McClure PA: Valentine's name appears in an old deed's pedigree for that property. [Walter Spigelmyer's fathe! r, Lucian, was brother of Annie's father, Michael, Jr.] Annie's grandfather, Michael, Sr. and his brother Joseph both farmed on Shade Mountain above Cuba Mills in Juniata Co. (north of Mifflintown PA) in what is still known as Spigelmyer Gap along Spigelmyer Run (to the east of Suloff Gap and Suloff Run, the latter named for Henry Groninger Suloff and his sons). After Joseph Spigelmyer's death, his wife Rebecca let the taxes fall in arrears on their portion of land. This property was picked up for taxes about 1895 by a party named Hower (of Lancaster PA) and in 1991 it is owned by Ernie Hower. Another source of information on Annie's family is the obituary for her brother, Charles Spigelmyer, in the Lewistown SENTINEL (found in Juniata Co. Historical Society's "Obituary Scrapbook #1," p. 36). Charles, who had lived at 61 Logan Street, Lewistown died on Friday 5/20/1960. He had been born at Shindle on 5/21/1898. He married Claire Shellenberger and worked as a "Checker" for the PRR. He was a veteran of WWI and a member of the United Church of Christ. He was buried Monday 23 May 1960 in the Richfield Cemetery, Rev. Theron M. Snyder officiating. Surviving sisters and brothers were "Mrs. Earl (Annie) (Spigelmyer) Suloff of McClure, Mrs. Charles (Stella) Miller of Lewistown, Clarence W. Spigelmyer of Lewistown RD3, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Barton of Lewistown, I. Elwood Spigelmyer of Park View Terrace, and Mrs. Armin (Margaret) Bohrer of Nome AK." A newspaper article reporting a Sulouff reunion at the home of Annie's grandson, Joseph Bratton, on 17 August 1980 in McClure PA furnishes some information. As matriarch of the family, Annie Lodema (Spigelmyer) Sulouff, was in attendance and was honored by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Named attendees were: Edith & Samuel Betlyon, Sr. and daughter Deb; Marge and Samuel Betlyon, Jr. and children Tracey, Terri, and Clayton of Burnham; Belle Ann Mayes and children, Nancy, Dan and Dave; Vickie and Michael Baumgardner and children Mikey and Jamie; Mary Beth and Tim Burke and son Timmy, all of Lewistown. Also attending were marion and Wesley Swigart, McVeytown RD#2; Don and Shirlee Swigart and daughters, Lisa and Lori, Carlisle Pa.; Evelyn and Lewis Shade and son Tim; Ginger Shade and children, Scott and Beth Ann, of Burnham; Joan and Thomas Shade and children, marie and Brian, Pleasant Gap Pa.; Martha and Lester Bratton; Joe and Sue Bratton and son Daniel ! of McClure RD 2; Maxine and William Best and children, Lynn and Brian, Orefield Pa.; and guests Lorie Drake, Lewistown, and Ron Snook of Burnham Pa.
