I am descended from him also. We have documentation of his Native American Y-DNA, but I have found no documentation that he adopted his name from an employer. Both Conkey and Gilmore are Scots/Irish names. I have been to Adair Co., KY where he lived for a while. I could find nothing to connect him to the prominent Gilmer family there, except that he lived there. I would love to share information.
