Surnames: ROSENBERRY, ROSENBOROUGH, JOHNSTON, STINE, DAVIDSON, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AcB.2ACE/1569 Message Board Post: I'm looking for information regarding ALLEN ROSENBERRY (also spelled Rosebrough & asst. variations), born 1801, and died August 09, 1873 in Wayne Township, Mifflin Co., PA. Allen was buried with Mary Unknown (b. about 1810), who was alive and residing with him in 1860, according to the census, however, in 1850 he was listed with Jane Davidson (b. 1802). In the 1840 census, Allen Rosenberry was recorded in Oliver township as Allen Roseberry, head of household, one male under 5 (James Allen Rosenberry), and one female between 30- 40. I don't find him in the Mifflin Co. census prior to 1840 as a head of household, although he is, by that time, 39 years old. He didn't purchase property in Wayne twp. until May 17,1842, just after the birth of his daughter Martha. My speculation is that his first wife arrived with him in Mifflin Co. and had two more children. Sometime after 1842, she passed away and then Jane Davidson was enlisted as a domestic aid. He later married Mary Unknown much later on. I am also thinking that he may have been of the Rose(n)borough Scotch-Irish lineage rather than the assumed Rosenberry/Rosenberger German line from Horse Valley, Letterkenny Twp., Franklin Co., PA (to which I can find no proven connection). I'd be also interested in any information regarding the origins of the Rosenboroughs of Mifflin, who arrived around the same year as Allen. John Rosenborough, I think, was married in Roxbury, Franklin Co. Children of ALLEN ROSENBERRY and UNKNOWN are: 1. MARY ANN ROSENBERRY, b. 1838, Wayne Twp., Mifflin Co., PA; d. July 01, 1906, Wayne Twp., Mifflin Co., PA. 2. JAMES ALLEN ROSENBERRY, b. 1841, Wayne twp., Mifflin Co., PA; d. 1924, Lewistown, Mifflin Co., PA, married ELEANOR "ELLEN" A. JOHNSTON. James and "Ellen" had 11 children: a baby girl, Harry (my line) and Blair both migrated to Toledo, OH, Lewis and Lloyd went to NY, Edgar to Oregon, Chloe NORTON stayed in Wayne twp., Mary DRIVER went to Lockhaven, Clark to Ridgeway, PA, George to Lakewood, FL, and Charles S. went to Port Matilda. 3. MARTHA JANE ROSENBERRY, b. July 06, 1842, Wayne Township, Mifflin Co., PA. m. James Shehan, son of JOHN SHEHAN and ELIZABETH GILLAM. James was born Abt. 1842 in Mcveytown, Mifflin Co., PA. Martha and James had Mary Elizabeth Shehan who married married JOHN WILLIAM RUTHERFORD. Thanks for any info you might have! Cynthia
Certainly in the early history of what is now Mifflin Co.many of the people there came from what is now Franklin Co. It you look at the first tax list in 1767 there are Bratton, Carmichel, Carson, Griswell, Galloway, Hamilton, Holiday and McElhatton coming from what is now Franklin Co.
