There was a William Cummins, son of David & Catherine F. Cummins, who fought with the 1st. Pa. Rifles. On digging deeper though, I found that he died on Sept. 14,1862 at the battle of South Mountain. He is buried in Church Hill cemetery (Brown Twp) here in Mifflin County, Pa. and his age at death was 18 years- 11 months - 5 days. A stronger possibility is with: "Col. William Cummins, died at age 68 years in Brown Township, Mifflin County, on April 1", (*1865. The newspaper was dated April 12, 1865.* That's all I could find on the name William, but there are still people living here with that surname, and several older tombstones.
