    3. Your William A. Cummins can be found with his parents in the 1850 Mercer, Butler, Pa census Joseph Cummins, merchant, 50 Eleanor, 34 Wm A., 17 Lycurgus, 15 Melinda, 12 John, 9 Lysander, 7 Joseph, 5 Mary, 3 James, 1 Note: in the 1860 Marion, Butler census, Joseph and Ellen have added the following children to their family: Melville (abt 1852), Elizabeth (abt 1854), Walter (abt 1856) and Samuel (abt 1858). By the 1870 Marion, Butler, Pa census Ellen is a 55-yr-old widow, living next door to her son Joseph and his wife Ella. Living with her are her 3 youngest children plus JOhn and Lysander. The 1860 Venango, Butler census has William A. Cummins now married and with a son Wm. A., 27 Susan, 21, wife James, 2, son __________- By the 1870 census they are in Perry, Armstrong, Pa William, 34, oil operator Susanna, 31 James, 12 Haldane, 10 Laura, 7 a son (name difficult to read), 5 Blanche, 2 They are still there in the 1880 census, but transcribed as Cummings W. A., 46 Susanna, 42 James, 22 H.C., 19 Ella, 17 (was Laura in the previous census) C. M, 14 (the unintelligible name in the previous census) Blanche, 12 Charles, 8 _______________ 1900 Parker, Armstrong, Pa census Susanna Cummins, widow, born March, 1839 in Pa of Pa-born parents. She says that she has had 8 children, but only 5 survive by the 1900 census. Reed, Pearl, grand-daughter, born July, 1884 Reed, Susanna, grand- daughter, born Sept, 1889 ________________________________ 1900 Parker, Armstrong, Pa census James Cummins, born Aug, 1857 (first-born son of William and Susanna) Mary E., wife, born Feb. 1864 Blanche, daughter, born Nov, 1887 William J., son, born april, 1898. _____________________ 1900 Lincoln District, Marion County, West Virginia Haldane C. Cummins, born Sep, 1862 in Pa of Pa-born parents Rachel, wife, born August, 1867 in Canada of parents both born in Scotland. Rachel says that she has had 3 children but that just the 2 survive and she says that she and Haldane have been married 13 years (1887?) Ralph N., son, born July, 1888 in Pa Mildred, daughter, born June, 1899 in West Virginia _________________ 1910 Paw Paw, Marion, West Virginia census Haldane, Rachel M., Ralph N., and Mildred V. Rachel and Haldane say they have been married 23 years and Rachel still says that she has had the 3 children but only the 2 survive. Obviously little Paul died sometime before 1900. ______________ So.............your William A. Cummins was never enumerated in Mifflin county after 1850 and doubtful if he was before. His roots seem to be in Butler county and his father must be buried in Marion twp, Butler county, Pa which is where he was last enumerated in 1860 and his widow was still there in 1870. Hope all this info helps out, Sue

    3. Forgot to add that in the 1900 West Virginia census, enumerated with Haldane and his wife Rachel, is Haldane's nephew Howard J. Reed, born May, 1892 in Pa.. As what appear to be Howard Reed's 2 sisters (Pearl and Susanna Reed who are enumerated in 1900 in Parker, Armstrong, Pa with their grandmother Susanna Cummins, William's widow), I suspect that Haldane's sister married a Reed and she has died by 1900 - The sister must have been either Laura (Ella) or Blanche.
