    1. Alexander, Silas married Rachel Longwell

    3. Is there anyone on the Mifflin Co. PA list or the Longwell list who have researched the family of Silas Alexander b. 1807 (son of Robert Alexander) who married Rachel Longwell on 16 Nov. 1842? Rachel Longwell was born 3 April 1817; she was the daughter of Thomas Longwell and Margaret McClure of Mifflin Co., PA. Rachel Alexander, relict of Silas Alexander, died 11 May 1884. She was buried at the Presbyterian Church Cem., Menno Twp., Mifflin Co., PA. (Ref: two newspaper articles. See below.) I have very little info on Silas Alexander. Here's what I have. He was born 30 Sept 1807 in Mifflin Co., PA. He was the son of Robert Alexander and Elizabeth McClure. I do not know when and where he died; he died before the 1880 census was taken as Rachel is listed as being a widow, 62 years old, on the 1880 census. As far as I know, they had 3 children: 1. Thomas who became a Presbyterian minister and moved to Washington Co., PA 2. Elizabeth F. born c. 1849 3. Ada E. born c. 1855 On the Union, Mifflin Co., PA, 1880 census both daughters will single (age 31 and age 25) and living with their widowed mother. Also living with Rachel Alexander, 62, was Nancy Longwell "sister" age 58. From this, I assume that Rachel's sister Nancy was not married as of 1880. I have no further record of Nancy after 1880. It sounds like she was a spinster (still single at age 58). According to the April 7, 1881, edition of the Lewistown Democrat: "Rachel Alexander with her daughters Elizabeth and Ada have moved to Hickory, Washington Co., Pa, at which her son Rev. Thomas R. Longwell is a minister of the Presbyterian Church." May 22, 1884 edition of newspaper: "Rachel Alexander died in Belleville on May 11. May 15, 1884 edition of newspaper" "Rachel Alexander, relict of Silas Alexander, died at her home on Sunday and was buried at the Presbyterian Cemetery, Menno twp, on Tuesday." Anyone have info on when/where Silas Alexander died? Info on their daughters? Did they marry? Helen Graves
