    3. I thought some of you on the mailing list might be able to help this gentleman out with his family history. Please respond to Randy M. Torbett at rannglo@comcast.net Thanks, Josie ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: "rannglo@comcast.net" <rannglo@comcast.net> To: josiefb@verizon.net Sent: Friday, November 9, 2007 12:07:30 PM Subject: my grandfather Col. Thos. Turbet Dear Mrs. Josie Baughman, By way of introduction I am Randy Middleton Torbett . I came across your name at the bottom of a web page entitled ''Miffin county geaneaolgy project''. I dont have the paperwork in front of me but know the following. My great aunt Grace Edmondson succesfully traced our family roots back to Thomas Turbet and was granted admission to the DAR. I seem to be the last of the family who has significant interest in all this history. Although my daughters and son mention this fact proudly I cant seem to generate enough for them to seek admission to this predigious organization. I am hopeful that through correspondence I can discover more detail about my greatgrandfather and spur them on with this information, if not I'm proud and would like to know as much as I can. You certainly must wonder why my name is Torbett? Well my great great grandfather also Thomas Turbet changed the family name where he was in Shelbyville Kentucky to Torbett just prior to going off to in the cival war and was killed in the battle of Pea ridge. We dont have a clue. Another thing is my middle name Middleton. Apparently according to my grandmother A kindness saving Col Thos. life was done by a man named Middleton and the Col. promised that it would be included in our lineage and as far as I can read on the paper work I have somewhere where Grace Edmondson was making application to the DAR this has been done and my son, who is serving in the United states coast guard as a petty officer bears proudly the name Ryan M. Torbett. My wife is as we speak looking for that paperwork .My family for the most part is around Richmond Virginia, except when my father came here to Florada during WW2 to help build and operate the naval air station there and teaching young lads to fly SBDs. He is 87 now and is in parade tommorow, he was also instumental in organizing the Deland naval airstation museum there. Google him Kenneth S, Torbett if you care to do so. I know you must get all sorts of quiries from all over the place, but if you know anything or another source of info about my family patriot I would deeply appreciate your reply, Sincerely, Randy M. Torbett
