Pa. "Soldiers of Blair Co. Pa" by Floyd G. HOENSTINE - 1940 P. 42 - The Revolutionary War MCDOWELL, JAMES - enlisted the 1st of Jan. 1776 as a Private in Capt. Robert ALLISON'S Co. under Col. PORTER; in Battle of Trenton and discharged in August. Served other enlistments under Capts. alexander MCCOY, George BELL and William WILSON. "About the 4th of June 1781, he marched to Bedford, Pa for a seven month tour under the command of Capt. John BOYD - Boyd's Rangers" - Capt. Boyd was captured and Lt. Richard JOHNSTON succeeded to the command of the Company; discharged the 3rd of Jan. 1782. Born Feb. 1755 in the County of Derry, Ireland, resided in Armagh Township, Cumberland Co. during the War; resided in Decatur Township, Mifflin County in 1833 He is listed in "Mother Bedford and the American Rev" - p. 173 as JAMES "MCDOWAL".
