This, of course, is because the original immigrant has sons, grandsons, great-grandsons, etc. One such name I recently researched found 8 of that name on the 1810 census and by 1930 there were over 4,500. These were not necessarily all descendants of the original immigrant(s) but it does show a pattern that, at least in my experience, is not uncommon. A review of all census years for winket, winkett, wincet, wincett, etc., doesn't even find 20 of those names in any census year. I think in the 1820 and 30 census is when I find him. Jessie is found later. Hannah was born 16 Dec 1797. She died 24 June 1841 in Seneca Co, Ohio of cholera. She was not buried in a regular cemetery. Her stone is missing. She married 18 June 1818 in Mifflin,Pa. Don't know if there is a record or not, to Robert Neeley/Neely. Their first son John was born 30 Oct 1818. Do the math. After their marriage, Robert Neelys father David changed his will and cut Robert out. His dad died later that year and Robert rebelled against it. Robert and Hannah named their 4th child Samuel. Robert is Irish and they followed the pattern in naming their children. I was hoping to find records of Winket/Wincket around there. Perhaps children may have left something. An estate or did he own land. His children are named from family and it has helped some. but I need to know her family. I would think there would be a church but perhaps the records didn't exist anymore. I've had a dead end on this family and also would like to know where the land was that he was on. I only have 2 census records and I don't know where they were from. Hannah had no obit. Thank you for helping. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. No other individuals are listed in the household, except their wives?, "being of fifteen years but less than twenty" No Eli's are listed on the 1820, or 1840 census for Mifflin. When researching Mifflin county, be aware that the county split in 1831, with the southern half forming Juniata county. 14 of the 22 Thompson families present in 1830 lived in the part that became Juniata. He is first seen living in Orange Twp. Hancock Co. PA. In later census Jacob says his parents were from PA. He later migrated to IN as did his wife's parents. Several names of his children came from his wife's family. His wife was Anna BOWSER. They named one son Eli and one William. Those names don't match his wife's family names. There was an Eli THOMPSON in Hancock Co., OH at the same time Jacob was there. He married Sarah/Sara CORKLE/CORKEL. Sara & Eli were from Mifflin County, PA. My question, is Jacob part of the Mifflin County, PA Thompsons? His oldest son was named William. Is that a clue to his father's name??
