Thanks, Josie ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: Rick Koontz <jonah56_56@yahoo.com> To: josiefb@verizon.net Sent: Tuesday, September 9, 2008 8:12:13 PM Subject: Archives Dear Josie, We have been feverishly searching for any articles concerning a Native American girl that married an Irishman(Collins) in or around Mifflin County. The story goes that she married the Collins man and having had enough of the American culture, the Irishman and his brother decided they would retreat back to Ireland. The girl having given birth to a child(Baby Boy Collins), she decided to stay here so she and her child hid from her husband and his brother. Not finding them anywhere, the Collins' left for Ireland leaving her and her child behind. We know a newspaper article was written about this event(many years later) but we have been unable to find it. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance for your help! Hello Donna, Is it possible that this presentation could be recorded and made available on CD? I'm retired in AZ and am not able to attend the subject presentation. I had several Sulouff>Suloff relatives very active in canal related businesses - boat owners, draying, shipping, wharehousing, etc.- and I'm very interested in the subject. Rev. Nelson R. I put it on the PA Roots home page http://www.pa-roots.com/pabios/index.html which is full of biographies from various old books. from Cochran's 1879 "History of Mifflin County"; James Cupples, Senr, came from Antrim county, Ireland, in the year preceding the revolutionary war. An English man-of-war gave their emigrant ship a severe chase, but a dense fog saved them from capture. He, like many others of the early emigrants, first located in Chester county. After his marriage, he removed to Mifflin county, and settled in Derry township, in Dry Valley, on a farm which he bought of a Mr. Burns. He raised a family of 21 children, only 3 of them sons (John, Robert and James Jr.). Was 3 times married. The youngest of these 3 sons was John Cupples, born in Dry Valley December 22, 1800. John Cupples was married July 28, 1828. His brother James died at the age of 88, and his brother Robert at the age of 80. John Cupples had 6 sons and 2 daughters (of whom there are now, 1879, living 4 sons and 1 daughter). Note: At the time of this book's writing, John Cupples was living in Ferguson's Valley, at an advanced age, and "in excellent health" - presumably the information given was supplied by John Cupples himself. ____________________ I'll see what else I can find and get back to you.
