Author: Hanfamdamly Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.mifflin/3107.5.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This at least confirms what my research indicated. I had noted Charles Magill, but did not know about James Magill, he's new to me. Both bear futher research. Considering how many of them there seemed to be in the area, it's surprising there's so little in the records. The Martha Elizabeth Magill and Wilson Treon were my great-grandparents, so have already traced them to MO. But thanks so much for the effort! The search goes on!!! Thanks! Also in the 1790 Derry twp assessment is a James Magill, 203 acres. Charles Magill warranted 300 acres 17 June 1793 in what became Granville twp. Martha Elizabeth appears to have married Wilson Treon of Northumberland county. In the 1900 census, they are in Franklin, Greene, Missouri. Martha says she was born in April of 1865 and Wilson in Oct of 1861, both in Pa. They say they havwe been married 14 years (1886) and have 6 children: Robert, Howard, Stella, Jesse (male), Effie, and Pearl (the first 3 born in Pa, the next 2 in Nebraska and Pearl in Missouri. By the 1910 census in the same place, Mattie is a widow and has 2 more children: Elmer (born abt 1901) and George (born abt 1904), both in Missouri. Martha is still in Missouri in the 1920 census, but then cannot be found in the 1930 census. Hope some of this helps Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. I don't know if this will help you, but I have an obituary that has your Mattie in it. John B. Yocum, 69, of 54 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Union, died at 4:40 a. m. Wednesday, Dec.21,1988, at J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Dec. 23, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. The Rev. William Wollett officiated. Interment was made in the Mount Union Cemetery. He was born March 17, 1919, in Mount Union, the son of the late George and Mattie (Ginithin) Yocum. He was united in marriage to Florine Hiles in 1948. She survives in Mount Union. Two children, John K. Yocum, Smith Valley and Mrs. Edward (Mary Ann) Miller, Newton Hamilton, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive. One sister Mrs. Leslie (Mildred) Gearhart, McVeytown, R. D.1 and one brother, Russell Yocum, Austin Tex. also survive. He was preceded in death by one grandson, one great-grandson, three brothers and two sisters. Mr. Yocum was of the Presbyterian faith and instrumental in the formation of the Mount Union Area Youth Baseball League. He was educated in the Mount Union Area Schools and was a veteran of WW II serving in the U. S. Army. He retired from the Harbison-Walker Refractories in 1984 and worked in construction prior to that. I may have more information on Mattie. If I do, I will send it. Barbara Neff barbandernie@pa.net

Mattie Yocum, wife of George S Yocum lived in Mount Union and died at her daughter's house in McVeytown. Her grave marker simply states she died in 1949. I know the Mifflin County Historical Society has several death indexes, and I am hoping to find some kind soul who might be willing to do a search in the year 1949 for a more exact date of death for Mattie or Martha.
