I looked through my cemetery books for Mifflin County and found: Thomas J. Varner 1875- (no death date) and his wife Mary C. 1878-1922 in Newton Hamilton Memorial. My books were published in 1976-77. Newton Hamilton is VERY close to the Mifflin-Huntingdon line and very close to the Mount Union area also. Hi Christy, I don't have any info on your Varner family, but I want to wish you luck in your search. You are on the right track to publish your detailed info -- it is so much more helpful than just posting a surname and many people don't take the time to do it. One very important resource people overlook is the Rootsweb mail list archive. I did a search on your Varner surname and got some good hits. This one is eight years old, and if the email address is still current, it looks like he may have info on your Varner family in Blacklog Valley: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/pahuntin/2001-01/0979007111 Here's one from 1998 with a message about a family reunion, and a good reminder that Warner/Werner is a variant of Varner/Verner: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/pahuntin/1998-04/0891611923 When I put "Varner" in the subject line, I got 14 hits, but when I put "Varner" in the body line, I got 143. You might want to peruse these postings -- there are quite a few obits posted. You might get contacts for years to come from people perusing the archives who read your postings -- they don't have to be subscribed to the mail list! Karen, anything I can do re having "books" - Gerri aitkins and Dan Mcclenahen's ? for that time frame? Donna Glant Terrian
I am in the final process of completing a list of descendants of William Strunk and his wives, Barbara Rhein and Rebecca Bush/Brush. I have one unidentified daughter who was born between 1825 and 1830. She appears on the census for both 1830 and 1840 in his family in Armagh Township. If anyone has a "dangling" Strunk female who has roots to Armagh Township at this time, I would appreciate hearing from you. Beers' states that he had 18 children (5 sons and 4 daughters from each marriage). It appears there were 18 children, however there were 6 sons from the first marriage and probably only two daughters from the second marriage. I have listed Rachel Jane, wife of William Ross as a probable daughter of the second marriage. I would also like to find a will for her as she and her husband were very prosperous but probably had only one daughter who survived to adulthood and possibly was not married. Rachel died in 1889. Mifflin and Centre counties have many descendants of this "ole gent. I have attempted to identify descendants through 1930, however; there are a number of unidentified descendants, particularly in the female lines from the sons. I am interested in hearing from anyone who is descended from William (especially if you have pictures). I only have a picture of one of the daughters through whom I descend. Regards, Karen McKellar

We believe his father's name was John but we don't know where he entered the country or any other family members names. We do know that he married a Mary (Catherin or Elizabeth) McGrady thought to be a distant relation through the Aunt.
