I have rather hard to read pages 15 and 16 from a book regarding the subject in Lewistown, Mifflin County. The business was called Peters & Dibble recorded in 1850 as "two houses, shop on 1/2 lot. potter -$100" Would you be able to provide me with more information on this family? I am particularly interested in Henry Peters, who arrived in about 1847 and was also listed in census records as a stone mason. He lived in your community all his life. I would appreciate any input you can provide. Betty Peters g2e2design@aol.com

    3. Hey, I wanted to thank everyone who sent me suggestions and did some research on my behalf.  I got MANY responses to my initial inquiry.  Thank you so much to everyone who responded.   There were several people who said that they had found the Revolutionary War papers for Absalom Timms and offered to send them to me.  I appreciate the offer.  But I do have them already-- I also found them at Heritage Quest.  (By the way, if you didn't know, Heritage Quest has made available the Revolutionary War pension files free of charge.  Check them out!)   Thanks again everyone!   Brian

    3. I'd recommend this book. If he appears, it should indicate where he was living when he died: Personal Author: Gunning, Kathryn McPherson. Title: Selected final pension payment vouchers, 1818-1864. Pennsylvania. Philadelphia & Pittsburgh / Kathryn McPherson Gunning. Publication info: Westminster, MD : Willow Bend Books, 2008. "In the 1960s, the National Archives staff culled out selected 'settled accounts' that had genealogical value from the pension payments (these are records not found in the pension application files). This massive volume reflects payments made by the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh pension offices to veterans (chiefly of the Revolution but also of the War of 1812 and wars in Florida and Mexico), their widows, or their surviving children. The record abstracts include such information as dates of death, remarriages of widows, identities of survivors, and the places and length of residence."--Cover. *** My Rev. War ancestor is in this book. He had a pension and lived in central PA. Also, I have access to HeritageQuest, which has Rev. War pension files online. There is an Absolom Timms who is on the pension roll for Pennsylvania but who served from Cumberland Co., New Jersey. His certificate of pension was issued on 28 Nov 1818.In 1820 he had nine children and a young wife. Same one? 3. Brian, You might want to check with your local public library, a local genealogical society, or with friends to find subscription access to the GENEALOGYBANK Website. It specializes in genealogical information published in old newspapers. You might get lucky!!! You can read about GENEALOGYBANK on the Web to see if you think it might provide you a clue.
