I have looked at the John McNear family several times during the course of my research but have not been able to link him to our family yet. I'm sure there is a connection in there somewhere though! Thanks again for passing your info along! Michele Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We have no ties to McNear research, but when I saw these I remembered your query. We found 3 extremely worn McNear children's tombstones dated 1818, 1819, and possibly 1822 {stone broken through date, bottom half missing} in McVeytown Presbyterian Cemetery, Oliver Township, Mifflin County. Names were: John Calvin McNear, Sarah McNear, and Elizabeth McNear. All were children of John and Catherine McNear... If we get there again, we'll keep our eyes open for John & Catherine stones. I am researching Polly Smith from Mifflin County who allegedly married "a Bashore" and moved to the state of Indiana (unverified). My Polly Smith would have been born around 1829, give or take, daughter of George Smith and Mary Buffington Smith. Within the Smith family is a Price, a Moore and a Ruble. Phoebe is my 6th generation grandmother. I need info on her and her connection to her father Robert. Robert was a rev soldier and I am looking into a membership with the DAR. I need quite a bit of info and sources. Do you have anything on her, her father, and her marriage to Alexander McClees? Recently we took a trip to Cave in the rock to find her grave. We had no luck and I am not sure we were in the correct cemetery. There is one that is very old and in bad condition. I would appreciate anything you would have to share with me. Thank you. I could do that for you. I'm in Lewistown every day. I like taking photos and would be willing to take photos since I have been the recipient of many "favors" from these boards. It's nice to be able to "pay it back". Mona --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check outnew cars at Yahoo! Autos.
Dear List Members: My name is Julian H. Preisler and I reside in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia near Washington, DC. I am searching for a person who can take a color photograph of the exterior of Temple Ohev Sholom located at 20 East Third Street in Lewistown. I am researching American Synagogue Architecture and am in the process of creating an e-Book on the subject. Photo credit will be given to the photographer both in the research project and upon publication. If anyone can do this for me or knows of someone who is willing to assist, please do get in touch with me. Photographs can be digital (preferred), but I can also accept regular print photographs and can scan them into the database. I have photographs of many of the Jewish temples and synagogues in Pennsylvania and would also like to include the one in Lewistown. I thank you in advance for your help and look forward to hearing from any of you. Sincerely, Mr. Julian H.
