Hi Kathy and Fellow Listers: There is the following reference to the surname HOWARD in Abstracts of South Central Pennsylvania Newspapers (1785-1790)..... Not sure if this would be any relationship to your Thomas Howard or not? The Carlisle Gazette - dated: March 7, 1787 Notice is given not to take assignment of bonds given to heirs and executors of Joseph HOWARD, decd, in consequence of a bargain made between us, for tract once the property of aforesaid Joseph Howard, in Wayne twp., Cumberland Co. - John MEVEY, Wayne twp. I have info from John Conkey downstream to the present. I am in contact with the family members who posted the info you mention. It is upstream from John Conkey past his marriage with Mary Isaacs that I am stuck. I can't find anything about his parents or other family. If he iss the full-blooded Native American, who is the Gilmore or Conkey whose names he adopted? We have a lot of speculation & a lot of "family history," but no real evidence about him. He must have been an unusual man and certainly was a pioneer, but.... I hope we can all keep looking and find some answers. I love this stuff. Since Conkey had left Tenn or KY before the Indian rolls were taken he was not in the records and before they took the rolls in the other state, he had left there. If I remember correctly that was when he started working for John Gilmore or Gilmor. But fleeing the last state may have been when he took the Gilmore name. I am descended from him also. We have documentation of his Native American Y-DNA, but I have found no documentation that he adopted his name from an employer. Both Conkey and Gilmore are Scots/Irish names. I have been to Adair Co., KY where he lived for a while. I could find nothing to connect him to the prominent Gilmer family there, except that he lived there. I would love to share information. There are several of his descendants in our group desparately searching for documentation. Thanks. Mary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am looking for a marriage between Thomas Howard and Elizabeth Armstrong. This couple does move to Ontario Co., NY between 1790- 1800. Could someone please help me?
